Greetings!
On April 19th, 2013, nearly 500 guests gathered at the Hilton Anatole for Rainbow Days' 16th Annual Pot of Gold Luncheon, which raised just under $190,000 in support of Rainbow Days programs and services.
Rainbow Days' positive and life-changing impact was made evident from the beginning when children's entertainer, Eddie Coker, and the Children of Rainbow Days got everyone on their feet and dancing to Eddie's song "Interaction." After this electrifying performance, guests enjoyed lunch while listening to remarks by this year's Honorary Chair Sheryl Adkins-Green, Chief Marketing Officer at Mary Kay Inc., Rainbow Days' Founder and CEO Cathey Brown, and Jessica Thorne of Taber Okon Thorne & Carr and past Board President of Rainbow Days who spoke on behalf of all the Campaign Donors. | | Eddie Coker & the Rainbow Days Children |
Rainbow Days wishes to express gratitude to this year's media sponsors, Grand Luxe and Park Cities News, our major sponsors (click here for a list of 2013 Sponsors), our silent auction donors ( click here for a list of 2013 silent auction donors) and the luncheon co-chairs, Carriea Flowers and Dr. Michele Williams, who worked tirelessly alongside a committed team, who were instrumental in making this lunch not only possible, but the best yet! The words spoken after the luncheon by Elizabeth, a Rainbow Days participant for two years and interviewee at the luncheon, summarizes why we do what we do, "Thank you for all of your hard work on the luncheon. It shows how much everyone cares and supports all of us kids. Rainbow Days helped me during a difficult time. I love Rainbow Days because everyone here really cares about me." April 9th, 2013 marked the date of Rainbow Days' annual Patron Reception, which recognizes those individuals, corporations and foundations who have committed to be a sponsor at the Pot of Gold Luncheon and our Hope For A Promising Future Campaign Donors. Guests snacked on delicious bites provided by PHPC Catering, enjoyed beautiful flowers compliments of Branch + Vine, heard remarks by Rainbow Days' Founder and CEO Cathey Brown, and began the bidding on several must have silent auction items! To set the wheels in motions, Don Krasen of Krystal Clear Audio-Video, pledged to match all donations that night up to $2,000! Rainbow Days would like to extend a special thanks to James and Mary Jo McKellar for opening up their beautiful home for this event along with Luncheon Co-Chairs Carriea Flowers and Dr. Michele Williams for underwriting this event.

Mission Moment
Abel and Andrew Way were siblings living in an emergency shelter with their mom where Ms. Kit Kat arrived to facilitate group. Ms. Kit Kat introduced herself to the new family prior to group. Abel and Andrew's mother introduced herself and her children and explained that Abel was the oldest and was well-mannered and easily followed instruction. Ms. Way next explained that the younger, Andrew, was a constant challenge. Andrew rarely listened or paid attention and she found herself having to repeat things to him over and over again. She loved her youngest son, but he could frustrate the best of them. Ms. Kit Kat thanked the mother and escorted the boys into the group room with the other children and promised them they'd have a great time. During the next hour, Ms. Kit Kat observed the behavior that Andrew's mother had spoken of but noticed Andrew had moments when he would go completely still and "check out." Following group, Ms. Kit Kat asked Ms. Way whether Andrew had ever been screened for Epilepsy? Andrew had not but was soon medically diagnosed as experiencing mild epileptic seizures which explained so much and brought much needed help. Ms. Way was immensely grateful to Ms. Kit Kat for her perceptive nature.

Thank you to our Volunteer Family
In the spirit of National Volunteer Week we wish to express our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to each and every SUPER FANTASTIC volunteer! You assist us without complaining, you give with all your heart, serve without hesitation and you make the children we serve smile. We couldn't ask for anything more. Last year nearly 1,300 volunteers contributed over 5,300 volunteer hours. For the last 31 years, volunteers have always been a critically important part of Rainbow Days. You are the cog in our wheel that keeps us rolling, the wind beneath our wings and the shoulder to lean on when times get tough. Whether you have volunteered one time or for multiple years your contributions have been impactful beyond words. Try as we might we truly couldn't serve the over 15,000 children per year that we do without your generous donations of time, efforts and kindness. Your efforts make a major difference in the lives of the children and families we serve and make a difference in changing the WORLD and making it a better place for us all. Like Ripples in a Pond By Laurie Eytel
We thank you for all the great things you do. Large and small, they all have meaning to the families you help and to us. One act can make all the difference. Like ripples in a pond ¬ kindness spreads outward, reaching and touching others and can change a life forever. The smiling faces we see say it all... Thank you...you are our stars! Are you looking for a way to get further involved with Rainbow Days? We can use your time and talent! Please check out the list of upcoming volunteer opportunities and contact Mitzi White, Volunteer Coordinator if you would like to sign up. |
