Stephanie Needed Her Father

When Stephanie was removed from her mother's care, her father was ready to help. He found a new apartment and furniture, secured childcare and completed parenting classes Child Protective Services required. But he needed help overcoming a language barrier, and advocate Myrna was there to help. Myrna, Stephanie and her father worked as a team to get the little girl home with her father.

Meet Advocate Michelle Chapman

At only 33 years old, Michelle Chapman has an impact on local children that belies her age. A sworn advocate since 2010, Michelle has worked eight cases involving 21 different children. She says her role is a positive one. She doesn't dwell on what happened to the children she serves but instead focuses on their futures, helping each abused or neglected child grow up in a loving and supportive home.

North Texas Giving Day This Week

On North Texas Giving Day Thursday, donations to Dallas CASA mean more when they are matched by Communities Foundation of Texas. Follow along with us to learn about Alaina and Natalie. Witnesses to drug abuse and domestic violence in their homes, they struggle to find a safe and permanent home. Through two years of upheaval and change, their one constant was their CASA volunteer Rebecca.

Read about Alaina and Natalie's story on Dallas CASA's blog, then join us Thursday to make your donation and hear where Alaina and Natalie are today.
Antwone Fisher's Memoir Inspires

Have you heard of Antwone Fisher? Born in prison to a teenage mother just two months after his father was murdered, Fisher spent a lonely childhood in an abusive foster home. In his 2001 memoir that inspired the 2002 movie "Antwone Fisher," Fisher tells the story of his desire to be loved, his desire to have a place and, ultimately, his desire to rise above the wrongs done to him.

Read more about Fisher's book on Dallas CASA's blog. Or join us to hear Antwone Fisher speak at this year's Champion of Children award dinner Oct. 27.
Men's Night Recruits Advocates

Dallas CASA's Mi CASA Su CASA Men's Night brought more than 40 Dallas CASA male volunteers, supporters and guests together to hear about the need for more men to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children. Currently, 13% of Dallas CASA volunteers are men. Men can play a critical role as CASA volunteers, particularly for young boys or teenagers who do not have a solid male role model in their lives. The evening featured barbecue provided by Not Just Q and beer from Tupps Brewery.

Are you interested in joining the men of Dallas CASA and becoming an advocate? Learn more at one of our volunteer information sessions.
