Whats New in Family Search? | RootsTech 2016: Resources for Priesthood Leaders and Ward Councils New materials: Strengthening Eternal Family Bonds through Temple Service (booklets). A meeting, held at the Salt Palace Convention Center on the closing day of the RootsTech family history conference, was recorded, and content from it will be incorporated into training materials that will be used throughout the world in various Church units.
Several new resources were introduced during the session:
- From the Missionary Department, two new pamphlets that missionaries will use in teaching investigators and retaining them as new members of the Church.
- From the Temple Department, the newly offered ability for Church members to print ordinance cards at home before going to the temple to perform the ordinance work. [See related story.]
- From the Family History Department, a "beginner card" named "Strengthening Eternal Family Bonds through Temple Service: Start Building Your Family Tree," and an accompanying online experience.
- Also from the Family History Department, the newly offered ability to enter names, pictures, and stories from the My Family pamphlet that has been available for several years into FamilySearch.org. The new tool is now available in 42 languages

Print LDS Temple Ordinance Cards at Home
Members can now print their own family ordinance cards at home rather than printing them at the temple. This option is now available in the United States and will be available worldwide in the next few months. Learn how-click here.

Could we have the ability to search through a person's memory documents?
It would be handy for people that have a lot of memories, stories and other documents attached to them, to be able to search through all of them. Ex: "Christmas" could bring up all the references across all stories and memories that have the keyword Christmas.
Answer:
A new view of Memories is coming, if you haven't seen it already. It is called the "Gallery". This new view has the ability to do exactly what you are asking. It an exciting new way to view and manage your artifacts. Remember, the ability to "find" things based on words is dependent (currently) on searching the titles and descriptions of artifacts and only works for artifacts contain tags and those tags cannot include any living people.

HAVE LIMITED TIME FOR RESEARCH? Here's What I Did Today in Just 60 minutes
As genealogists we all want more time. Whether we work full time, part time or are retired. There never seems to be enough time to work on our research or our files. And, if you have a family with children there are even more distractions. What can we do with a limited amount of time? Here are some things I did today in 60 minutes. Click here.
RootsMagic, FTM and the Holy Grail of Family History Software
Ancestry.com's unpopular announcement that it would be retiring its Family Tree Maker software was followed by a loud "never mind!" Software MacKiev has acquired Family Tree Maker software for both Mac and Windows and will continue the software's production. More interesting to me is the news that RootsMagic software and Ancestry.com will be connected by the end of 2016. Read Lisa Louise Cook's full column-click here.
Can i use that picture?
We always like to add a picture or photos to our genealogy reports, blog posts, and social media, but don't always have the exact picture we want in our own photo collection. Recently I came across some very good information that is quite relevant to the genealogy community.
Google is Shutting Down Picasa
Google's Picasa has been one of my favorite photo editing tools for several years. Now there is bad news and good news about the free service. Read more-click here. Looking for a Genealogy Program that Will Be Around for a Long Time
A newsletter reader wrote to me today expressing dissatisfaction with the recent "retirement" of Family Tree Maker. He wants to switch to a different genealogy program but is concerned that the next program he uses also might be "retired" before long. He asked, "Which genealogy software will stand the test of endurance?" Read Dick Eastman's column - click here.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought |
"If work in the temples is done with records that are incomplete and inaccurate it will more than likely have to be done over again. In this way the records are burdened with unnecessary matter which cannot be properly arranged, researchers will make fewer mistakes and in the end save time and means by giving more attention to their recording. It is the disposition of many of the people to hurry their work along in an unorganized fashion because of their zeal for temple work. Patience, accompanied by prayer and thorough research, will prove best in the end."
Joseph Fielding Smith - 1955

THERE WAS AN OLD MULE
There was an old mule. One day accidentally he fell into the farmer's well. The farmer has evaluated the situation and thought to himself, that neither the well nor the old mule was worth the efforts to save them. Thus he decided to haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well.
So the farmer called his neighbors and together they started to shovel dirt into the well. The old mule was terrified and hysterical in the beginning. But soon one hopeful idea came to his mind - every time when a shovel of dirt landed on his back, he would shake it off and step up!
He repeated these words to himself again and again: "Shake it off and step up". This way he could struggle the panic and encourage himself. After some time, the mule had stepped over the well's wall. Although terribly tired, he was the winner, he saved his own life. He decided to face his adversity positively and not to give up, and thus he won.
What seemed to bury him, actually saved him, owing to his confidence and restless efforts.
