Help Desk
  • What is Private Spaces in Family Tree?
  • Each user of Family Tree has a private space. Private spaces help protect privacy and allow users to enter information for living family members.  All living people and relationships are stored in Private spaces.  Currently Private spaces cannot be shared.  Once a living pesron has a death date entered, he or she no longer stays in Private spaces.

We are not all in the fortunate position to have others in the family that shares our passion for genealogy and so will become the next archive for the family research already done.  When in that situation, it's important to consider giving your genealogy research to a library or archive.  Read more-click here.

When the Source Doesn't Have That Source Document
Searching through all the ancestral lines connected to my husband's Tully family brought up an important point: some of those near-invisible women among his ancestors need to be found. But how? Once a young woman no longer shows up in her parents' household, unless she shows up in the church cemetery under a headstone confirming her maiden name, the only conclusion we could reach-at least in those bygone years of previous centuries-was that she married and disappeared into genealogical oblivion.  Read more here.

DNA.land - a new site for your DNA results
Today the new DNA site - DNA.land - did a major update which vastly improved the display page for matching relatives and also got rid of the false matches that we all initially saw.   This new site, created by a team at Columbia University, promises on its about page that you will "learn more about your dna and contribute to important scientific research." It is also "in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) to better understand the genetic risks of breast cancer."   Review this great article, click here.

Are you able to form emotional connections with family members you don't remember? With ancestors? Or are they stubbornly one-dimensional, lying flat on the page?
Even when you have the basic facts of your relatives' or ancestors' lives, emotional connections to them often remain elusive. If you never knew them-have no memories of them-they are simply names, dates, and random facts.  Click this link to learn more.

If you want to write a family history that people will want to read, it's a good idea to think about those potential readers before you begin. What interests and inspires them?  Most genealogical researchers see their task as the pursuit of facts about their ancestors - births, deaths, marriages, children, death, occupations, and home places. Lists of facts seldom engage people.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought
"The Lord will help open doors as we do genealogy. I have a conviction born of a little experience...that there are forces beyond this life that are working with us. ... I have the simple faith that when you do everything you can, researching to the last of your opportunity, the Lord will help you to open doors to go further with your genealogies, and heaven will cooperate, I am sure."

Remember...
A bowl of noodles from a stranger
That night, Sue quarreled with her mother, then stormed out of the house. While enroute, she remembered that she did not have any money in her pocket, she did not even have enough coins to make a phone call home.
At the same time, she went throh a noodle shop, picking up sweet fragrance, she suddenly felt very hungry. She wished for a bowl of noodles, but she had no money!
The seller saw her standing wheat faltered before the counter and asked:
- Hey little girl, you want to eat a bowl?
- But ... but I do not carry money ... she shyly replied.
- Okay, I'll treat you - the seller said - come in, I will cook you a bowl.
A few minutes later the owner brought her a steaming bowl of noodles. Ate some pieces, Sue cried.
- What is it? - He asked.
- Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness! - Sue said as she wiped her tears.
- Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, and my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She is cruel!!
The seller sighed:
- Girl, why did you think so? Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother had raised you since you were little, why were you not grateful and disobeyed your mom?
Sue was really surprised after hearing that.
"Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, and my mother has raised me since I was little and I have never felt so, even a little."
On the way home, Sue thought in her head what she would say to her mother when she arrives home: "Mom, I'm sorry. I know it is my fault, please forgive me ... "
Once up the steps, Sue saw her mother worried and tired of looking for her everywhere. Upon seeing Sue, her mother gently said: "Sue, come inside honey. You are probably very hungry? I cooked rice and prepared the meal already, come eat while it is still hot ..."
Can not control any longer, Sue cried in her mom's hands.
In life, we sometimes easy to appreciate the small actions of some people around us, but for the relatives, especially parents, we see their sacrifices as a matter of natural ...
Parental love and concern are the most precious gifts we have been given since birth.
Parents do not expect us to pay back for nurturing us ...... but have we ever appreciated or treasure the unconditional sacrifice of our parents?
