Whats New in Family Search? | FamilySearch Wiki:About Us
The FamilySearch Wiki is about finding records that may have been generated about your ancestors and the places in which the records might be found. It is a vast record depository of the paper trail that people leave behind long after they are gone. When you search in the Wiki, you search for places your ancestors lived and records you think they may have been in. You will not find a Wiki page about your ancestor, but you may find a database that contains your ancestors death record! The Wiki has records from the United States as well as from 244 countries. The late great PAF program
I would like to know why the home PAF program was discontinued. I have thousands of names in this program. I bought a new computer with windows 10 and I can't transfer my genealogy to the new one because PAF is discontinued. I love the Paf program and how it works. I have at least 6 books I have worked on with the pages from the home PAF and have thousands of pedigree charts and group sheets from PAF and don't want to change all that. I am so frustrated at this.
Amswer: Ancestral quest is modern incarnation of the PAF product. It reads .paf files and has the same interface. You really don't want paf 5 anymore. Ancestral Quest is to PAF 5 what Windows 10 is to Windows XP.
It is well worth the $30 (but they have free versions as well). Other similar products exist which also interface to the Family Tree. You an see many of these in the Application Gallery. Ancestral Quest, Roots Magic, and Legacy all have free versions that synchronize with Family Tree and can read PAF files.

It's Raining, It's Pouring!
Hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, fires, floods and many other natural disasters can suddenly impact your home. Some with no warning. P roperty has been damaged, homes flooded and families evacuated. Watching the scenes play out in my neighborhood and throughout the state the question kept coming to me. What if it was me? In 2001, Congress first passed a resolution to make that October Family History Month in the United States. Since then, although there haven't been official resolutions, genealogy businesses and organizations have continued to observe Family History Month in October. We love a reason to celebrate! Break out the party supplies and do something genealogical, such as: Click here....
Here's Why Quebec Church Records are a Great Place to Look for Ancestors
Those tracing their ancestors in Quebec can encounter serious frustrations! The same 50 given names appear for 70% of the people before 1800 (and many share the same surnames, too). Almost all passenger lists are missing before 1865. Several early censuses are not easily searchable online.
Thankfully, in Quebec church records are often available back to the 1600s. There are LOTS of them online, and they often contain the distinguishing details-those exact dates, names, relationships and locations-that can help identify an ancestor with greater certainty. Learn more - click here.

Using the 1890 Civil War Veterans Census
Yes, you read the title correctly. The 1890 census. The one that was almost entire destroyed. Although the vast majority of the population schedule is gone forever, there is a part that mostly survived: the 1890 Special Schedule of Union Veterans and Their Widows (AKA "the 1890 Civil War Veterans Census.") Read more about the 1890 Special Schedule of Union Veterans, click here.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought |
"Some of us have had occasion to wait for someone or something for a minute, an hour, a day, a week, or even a year. Can you imagine how our progenitors must feel. some of whom have perhaps been waiting for decades and even centuries for the temple work to be done for them? I have tried, in my mind's eye, to envision our progenitors who are anxiously waiting for those of us who are their descendants and are members of the Church on earth to do our duty toward them. I have also thought was a dreadful feeling it would be for us to see them in the hereafter and have to acknowledge that we had not been as faithful as we should have been here on earth in performing these ordinances in their behalf."
President Spencer W. Kimball

The Cookie Thief
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.
She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be. . .grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.
So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I would blacken his eye."
With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought... oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he's also rude, why he didn't even show any gratitude!
She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.
She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.
If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.
