OCTOBER IS FAMILY HISTORY MONTH-What do you know about your ancestors?
What a great month to begin or continue your own family history.
Our monthly Staff Training Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 14, in the tabernacle chapel, beginning at 9:00 am. This month we will have Sister Amy Archibald presenting "Piecing Together the Evidence". She will show us how to find the missing pieces of evidence, analyze if we have the right pieces, and what to do with the pieces that don't fit. We encourage all of the library staff to attend and please invite your ward family history consultants to attend.

Whats New in Family Search? | FamilySearch Partner Search
Record Hints and Research Help have recently changed in FamilySearch. T he new partner search feature automates your search through FamilySearch and some of the partner sites. The search is only as good as the data in FamilySearch. The more accurate and correct your FamilySearch data is, the more accurate and correct the partner searches will be. So, if your partner searches are yielding no results, perhaps your data in FamilySearch is incorrect. Read more about these new features, Click Here.

Direct Ancestor Indicator on Ancestor Profile Pages
I think that it would be nice if FamilySearch somehow marked my direct ancestors on each profile page, particularly in the Family Members section, perhaps with a star or icon or something to the right of their ID numbers. Or perhaps, instead of a star, with the number of generations backward from me. Or perhaps even with a designation like "2g-grandfather" or "7g-grandmother." Such a mark would render it easier for me (and, presumably, for others) to remember which child (or multiple children in some rare cases) we're each descended through while we're working on these records.
That would be great, but probably isn't happening. Familysearch is designed to be one tree with one entry each for all of mankind. (Nothing ambitious there!) So you may have thousands of direct ancestors. Engineers have said this isn't likely to happen. There are a few options you can use.
1. Ancestry and other sites let you build an online tree of just your ancestors. You can buy personal genealogy software, Legacy, Ancestral Quest, and Roots Magic are three certified by FamilySearch.
2. Look at the FamilySearch App Gallery. The link is down at the bottom of the FamilySearch Website. There are several apps that do things like what you want.
3. You can see a how you are related to view from a few places for about 4 generations. I think it is from photos?? and in temple work??

Straight Talk about the State of Indexing We need to talk. Don't worry. You're not in trouble or anything. Either way, get comfortable, and let's chat. Click here to continue.
When the Digital Age Hinders
The digitisation of historical documents is truly a great benefit to genealogists and to historians. Without it then we would have to travel a lot more - demonstrating more than a little commitment to our chosen field - and spend longer trying to find that essential bit of information for our quest. But are there instances where it works against us? Click here to learn more.

Family group record: roadmap for researchers
A well-documented family group record is the best tool you can use to get ideas about where to search for more information on a family. It bristles with clues hinting about names, dates, places, events, sources, and relationships that may need to be discovered, verified, or better documented. Learn more, click here.
How to Label Your Digital Photographs
How many times have you exclaimed in delight over the discovery of an old family photograph, only to turn it over and find out that absolutely nothing is written on the back? Whether you own a digital camera or use a scanner to digitize traditional family photographs, it is important to take some time and label your digital photos. Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought |
"When our hearts turn to our ancestors,
something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves. Our inborn yearnings for family connections are fulfilled when we are linked to our ancestors through sacred ordinances of the temple."
- Elder Russell M. Nelson

The Weight Of ResentmentsA teacher once told each of her students to bring a clear plastic bag and a sack of potatoes to school. For every person they refuse to forgive in their life's experience, they chose a potato, wrote on it the name and date, and put it in the plastic bag. Some of their bags were quite heavy.
They were then told to carry this bag with them everywhere for one week, putting it beside their bed at night, on the car seat when driving, next to their desk at work.
The hassle of lugging this around with them made it clear what a weight they were carrying spiritually, and how they had to pay attention to it all the time to not forget and keep leaving it in embarrassing places. Naturally, the condition of the potatoes deteriorated to a nasty smelly slime. This was a great metaphor for the price we pay for keeping our pain and heavy negativity! Too often we think of forgiveness as a gift to the other person, and it clearly is for ourselves! Author Unknown
Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, was reminded one day of a vicious deed that someone had done to her years before. But she acted as if she had never even heard of the incident. "Don't you remember it?" her friend asked. "No," came Barton's reply, "I distinctly remember forgetting it."
