Sandbox
I always have problems remembering how to get to the Sandbox. It would be really neat if there was a link to that on the training pages - Level One, Two and Three "Family Tree Curriculum" where we are supposed to be using it. Thanks!

Answer:  put sandbox in front:  sandbox.familysearch.org

Remember me as I was
When my mother was diagnosed with ALS in 2009, our family had the first of many discussions about her end-of-life plans. Never one to shy away from difficult topics, Mom expressed her wishes with characteristic cheerful directness. She wanted everything done with the least fuss and greatest economy.
The one decision that gave her pause was the photo to accompany her obituary. She didn't want to be remembered as she looked in the late stages of ALS, but she also felt it would be "phony" to run a photo of herself in young adulthood, before marriage and motherhood. And from this question came a series of conversations between myself and my mother that I carry with me as my own appearance changes along with my sense of who I am.  To continue, click here.

Fashion Moments - Middy Blouse
Welcome to my weekly fashion blog post. Each week I will discuss a female garment, fashion trend or influencer from the age of photography (1840s through the 20th century). My goal is to educate family researchers and genealogists about the clothing worn by our ancestors. Dating photographs is an issue we all struggle with as family archivists. Additionally, anyone who writes about their family's history should be aware of the environment in which their ancestors lived. Period clothing is an important part of that environment from how it affects a person's movement to their overall lifestyle. This week I introduce you to the middy blouse.  Click here.

Indexing ... Keep Fueling FamilySearch
While the indexing event didn't reach the goal of 100,000 participants, the 82,039 participants indexed and arbitrated over 14.5 Million records in just one week! I am so glad that I participated in this event.
Know what? You don't need an "event" to participate in Indexing. I guess I'm trying to tell myself that as well. I don't need to wait to be invited to participate in an indexing event to do indexing. I can do it anytime that works for me.  Learn more.

Dictionaries for everything!
As genealogists, we have our own vocabulary, and as we research different people, in different places, in different eras, we come across words and phrases that have fallen out of common usage in modern times, but we still need to try to make sense of them in their historical context.  Below is a list of dictionaries hot-linked to their free online locations, that offer a range of information specialties, to help you in your genealogy research.  Click here to see the list.

Family History Research Help
Welsh Newspapers Online - my new happy place
In searching around for information about South Wales, I happened to come across a great genealogy and history resource -
Welsh Newspapers Online. Created by the National Library of Wales, the database is a free online resource. It contains over 1.1 million pages from over 120 newspapers, from 1804 to 1919. According to the introductory page on the site, it also includes the digitized content from The Welsh Experience of World War One Project.  Click this link.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought

 "There somehow seems to be the feeling that genealogical work is an     all-or-    nothing responsibility. Genealogical work is another responsibility for         every Latter-  day Saint, and we may do it successfully along with all the other       callings and  responsibilities that rest upon us...You can fulfill your obligations to     your kindred dead and to the Lord without forsaking your other Church callings. You can do it without abandoning your family responsibilities. You can do this work. Yo                   it without becoming a so called expert in it."-- Elder Boyd K. Packer
Remember...
Winners versus Losers

The Winner is always a part of the answer;
The Loser is always a part of the problem.
The Winner always has a program;
The Loser always has an excuse.
The Winner says, "Let me do it for you;"
The Loser says, "That's not my job."
The Winner sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser sees a problem in every answer.
The Winner says, "It may be difficult but it's possible;"
The Loser says, "It may be possible but it's too difficult."
