How do I restore a record of an ancestor that was deleted rather than merged with a duplicate record?
I have carefully tended the record of an ancestor only to discover that it was deleted on 20 July 2015, along with, as far as I can tell, the biographical sketch in a story, sources and a discussion item concerning the inability to verify his birthplace, parents and marriage date & place. I am familiar with the procedure to restore a record in a careless merger, but cannot find a way to restore this record.  These deletions appear to have been done as revenge for questioning one of the several speculative additions of alleged parents & birthplace, from different locations in England.  Am I dense and just missing the correct procedure to restore these records?
Answer:  Going to his record and clicking on restore should bring him right back. YOu can get there with either the PID or go to a person where they had a relationship and you will see the relationship deleted in the change log. Go to the deleted relationship and you should be able to click on their name to go do the deleted person. This needs to be better - we have talked about having a deleted list that people can search, but we cannot get to this yet.

Here's the Scoop on Images, Images and More Images

There are digital images everywhere and genealogists love to use them. I'd like to share resources, including those with more or less unrestricted use.  There are actually several different directions that genealogists may take when trying to find digital images.  First, the most common search is probably to find online photos of family members and ancestors in the family tree. Most researchers check online trees, such as those on subscription sites, hoping to find new photos of their extended family members. While there are certainly plenty of photos to be found on those trees, are you aware of two other websites, both free?  Follow this link or click here to reveal more.

Research Plans: a Reprise

Faded photographs are among a genealogist's treasured possessions.  A pictur of a family gathered on the front porch of an old farm house or gathered around a Thanksgiving Day table, may be fun to have but identifying everyone and establishing when and where the picture was taken can be a difficult task.  What about the physical location of the events preserved?    Out come the pencils and paper.  Follow the link above to learn more.

What Is The WPA?
Times were hard in the 1930's during the Great Depression. President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal contained provisions for agencies that would oversee the creation of new jobs to get people back to work. One such agency was the Works Progress Administration, or the WPA.  Learn what records may be available about your ancestors who worked for the WPA - click here.

Record Spiritual Experiences
We renew our appeal for the keeping of individual histories and accounts of sacred experiences in our lives-answered prayers, inspiration from the Lord, administrations in our behalf, a record of the special times and events of our lives. From these records you can also appropriately draw as you relay faith-promoting stories in your family circles and discussions. Stories of inspiration from our own lives and those of our forebearers as well as stories from our scriptures and our history are powerful teaching tools. I promise you that if you will keep your journals and records they will indeed be a source of great inspiration to you individually, your husband or wife, your children, your grandchildren, and mothers throughout the generations." Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought
"To be or not to be?'
That is not the question. What is the question? The question is not one of being, but of becoming. 'To become more or not to become more' This is the question faced by each intelligence in our universe."

Ice cream

Last week I took my children to a restaurant.  My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads he said,  "God is good. God is great.  Thank you for the food,  and I would even thank you more if  Mom gets us ice cream for dessert.  And Liberty and justice for all!
 Amen!"
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark,  "That's what's wrong with this country.  Kids today don't even know how to pray.  Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!"
Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me,  "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"
As I held him and assured him  that he had done a terrific job and  God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.  He winked at my son and said,
"I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."
 "Really?" my son asked.
"Cross my heart," the man replied.
Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream.  A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal.  My son stared at his for a moment
and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her,
"Here, this is for you.Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes;  and my soul is good already."
