Help Desk
Puzzilla.org / View options
In my calling as a Ward Family History consultant, I have found a great deal of value in the Puzzilla.org tree viewer. It is a fantastic way to see at a glance what areas of one's tree need attention (ordinances, possible duplicates, hints, etc) without having to constantly check EVERY record periodically. Unfortunately, now those options have been changed to Premium services requiring a subscription. Is there anything in the works to make this service a part of "Partner Sites"? I use Ancestry all the time, but I find much Puzzilla much more useful than either of the other partners thus far.

Puzilla is a great alternative  perspective of a tree. I can't speak for why or how a third party company decides to make features available for free versus paid for.
But I can say those features are available for free in the FamilyTree today, on the Person details page and also in the Descendancy view of the tree.

Give a Little Back

Alona Tester

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted".- Aesop

Think of how much we take for granted these days as a researcher. We log on, and we can search newspapers, we can search indexes, we can see original documents, even old photos of people and areas. Then there's headstone photos and transcriptions ... I could go on, but you get the idea.  I'm sure you can all relate to losing entire days just sitting, getting lost looking at data and records online. It's phenomenal what you can find these days.  Just remember every entry, every photo, every document takes the work of someone to put it there. And while there are literally BILLIONS of records already available to search, there are many, many more just waiting to be indexed or transcribed. And that's where you can help.  Call it crowdsourcing, volunteering or just helping out - it all means the same thing. And there are many places around the world that are calling out for volunteers for indexing, transcribing and photographing. And as the quote says "no matter how small, it is never wasted". Or as I say, "every little bit helps"

"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another." - Charles Dickens.

So I ask you, can you spare an hour or two a month? Or maybe a week? If so, why not give back to genealogy community by being a volunteer  indexer.  Visit FamilySearch.org/indexing

FamilySearch Releases 570 Million New Hints Between Family Tree and Records

 Robert Kehrer

Users of Family Tree will see these new hints displayed in the Record Hints box in the top right section of the person's details page, or with the Record Hints badge on the descendancy view. Clicking on a hint presents the user with information about a person or people in the record in relation to an individual in the Family Tree and displays the known information about each, enabling the user to quickly determine if the two sets of people are the same. If so, they can link the records to Family Tree ancestors as documentation.  We invite everyone to visit to FamilySearch and see records you may have never seen about your ancestors, find a new ancestor in records to add to your tree, and if you are experienced with genealogy, reach out and share your excitement and skills with family and friends who have yet to discover the joy of getting to know their past.

MyHeritage Searches for FamilySearch Family Tree Profiles

MyHeritage announced today, in a blog post titled "MyHeritage Adds 900 Million Global Historical Records" that they have added historical person profiles from the FamilySearch Family Tree to their SuperSearch results.  "The new content has been made available thanks to MyHeritage's partnership with FamilySearch and consists primarily of family tree profiles that have been submitted by more than 22 million FamilySearch users. Integration ensures that this data is refreshed on MyHeritage on a daily basis as it is updated on FamilySearch."  Read about using this feature by clicking here.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought
"Don't be gloomy. Do not dwell on unkind things. Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. Even if you are not happy, put a smile on your face. 'Accentuate the positive.' Look a little deeper for the good. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, with great and strong purpose in your heart. Love life."

Love Among the Juniper

By ShiliHalea

The birds will come back, I thought. They have to.

But outside, on the window sill of my guest room, there were none to be seen. Not one. They'd stopped coming when Dad died, December 26. In the days since, there was still no sign of them.  It was as if the birds too were in a state of mourning and the whole world was a darker, gloomier place because of Dad's death.

I sat down on the bed where Dad had spent his last days surrounded by family. I looked out the window at the thick bough of greenery I'd tacked outside the window sill just after Thanksgiving.

Weak from chronic lung disease, Dad couldn't get out of bed. A few juniper branches were a poor substitute for the outdoors he loved, but it was the best I could manage. "It's beautiful," Dad said when he saw it. But I wished it was more.

A few hours later, I was in the living room when I thought I heard him laughing. Dad, who struggled just to get a breath? No way. I ran into the bedroom. "I've never seen such antics," Dad said, pointing to the window.

A variety of birds-finches and cardinals, tufted titmice and blue jays-frolicked about the greenery. I quickly spotted what had attracted them there. Interspersed through the branches were dozens of silvery blue berries.  A real holiday feast!

"I've never see antic's" Dad said pointing to the window.  A variety of birds-finches and cardinals, tufted titmice and blue jays-frolicked about the greenery. I quickly spotted what had attracted them there. Interspersed through the branches were dozens of silvery blue berries. A real holiday feast.

All through December, every day, the birds came to the window. When they had eaten all of the berries, I cut more from the junipers on our property and restocked the buffet. Often I sat on the edge of Dad's bed and we watched the little angels together, listened to them sing. God's own choir, Dad called them.

"They'll be back," he always said when they flew off. But now he was wrong. The birds were gone and Dad was too, never to return. My heart filled with sadness. I got up from the guest room bed and took a step toward the doorway. Thump.

Startled, I looked behind me. There att he windowsill a small, gray bird pecked at the berries. Two others joined up. They'd come back. Just as Dad knew they would.

Perhaps they'd been busy escorting him to heaven where God's choir of angels would sing for Dad while his feathered friends sang for men.
