Thank you to all who supported the Logan FamilySearch library open house on Saturday.  We extend a special thanks to Arie Kirk of the Logan Herald Journal and to Jennie Christensen of  KVNU Radio for their kindness.  You can access the Herald Journal article by clicking here.

Our quarterly Family History Consultant Training sessions will be held at the Tabernacle on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.  Newly called Family History Consultants and Priesthood Leaders will meet at 6:30 to 7:15 pm.  Our General Session will begin at 7:30 in the Tabernacle chapel.  This quarters subject is "Involving the Family in Family History".

For the past two years, FamilySearch.org has offered assistance to local Stake sponsored events previously referred to as Stake Family History Fairs. This year, 2015, there will be another push to extend the concept of a local family history event through the use of  Family Discovery Days.  Here are a few of  the "early" events this year.

"Expedition" a Family Discovery Day will be held in Malad, Idaho, 1250 North 1100 West on 31 January, 2015 from 9;00 am until 3:00 pm.

Mount Logan Stake located at 565 East 100 South, Logan Utah will be having their Family History Discovery Day, 21 February, 2015 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

 Youth and Family History

Involve Children and Youth in Family History

Many people desire to know where they come from, but a sense of belonging is especially important for children and youth. A knowledge about their family history gives children of all ages a sense of their place in the world. It can also give young people something to live up to-a legacy to respect. Family history also provides an opportunity for children and teenagers to make a meaningful contribution to something bigger than themselves. This lesson provides ideas about how to involve children and youth in family history activities. Children and youth who develop an interest in family history are more likely to participate in family history throughout their lives.  Parents, grandparents, and teachers can involve children and youth in family history in many ways. Select this link to discover family history activities work well with children.

Sharing temple ordinance reservations with other individuals
We can currently share temple ordinance reservations with the temple system. It would be nice to be able to share/transfer the reservation to another FS user. For example, if I reserve a name, but then later my sister wants to do it, instead of me unreserving the name and her reserving the name, I would like to simply transfer the reservation to her so she can print out the FOR.

FamilySearch.org Family Tree recently added the capability to share Temple reservations with family and friends directly. There is now a Share link under the Temple menu item that appears for those who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and registered on FamilySearch.org with an LDS Account.
On your reservation list, there is a check box next to each reservation which allows you to mark the reservations you want to share. Marking this box enables you to send the reservations to a family member or friend by email. The reservations are then marked with an share envelope icon and sent. When accepted, the reservations will disappear from your list. If your invitation is not accepted within two weeks, the share envelope icon will be removed, allowing you to print, share, or unreserve your ancestor reservation again.
This is a major step in avoiding lost cards and misunderstandings. You will still need to monitor whether or not the accepted reservations are used to perform the ordinances.

"This is just the first phase of a multi-phase project. The next round, in the future, will allow you to share just specific ordinances".

Family Search Applications - FamilySearch.org

FamilySearch.org has launched an online App Gallery to help patrons more easily find the right application from FamilySearch's many partner applications, or services, to enhance their family history efforts. With just a few clicks, patrons can now begin to search partner apps to find those that meet their specific need, platform, operating system, and price. For example, if a patron is looking for a highly-rated app that will help them analyze the data in their family tree, the app gallery will allow them to filter and find several relevant partner apps to choose from. The FamilySearch App Gallery can be found at www.familysearch.org/apps.

Bureau of Land Management General Land Office Website

As Americans began the Westward Movement, the government began issuing land parcels using an organized planning system call the Public Land Survey System, often referred to as the Township, Range and Section system.  The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) General Land Office (GLO) has a Records Automation website that is both fabulous and free.  Read about it here.

Laura Bush and Donny Osmond to Share Family Stories at RootsTech

RootsTech 2015, already the largest family history conference in the world, is on track to surpass last year's record of 13,000 attendees-more than 18,000 are expected this year with over 50,000 joining online. The success can be attributed to the growing popularity of family history with people of all ages and a star-studded lineup of speakers and entertainers who will share their personal family stories, including former First Lady Laura Bush, tech visionary Tan Le, and entertainer Donny Osmond. RootsTech is hosted by FamilySearch and held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 12-14. Go to RootsTech.org to register or to see the full schedule of keynotes, performers, and speakers.

Suggestion for Weekly Bulletin Thought

"So be kind regarding human frailty-our own as well as that of those who serve with you in a Church led by volunteer, mortal men and women. Except in the case of His only perfect Begotten Son, imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it. So should we. And when you see imperfection, remember that the limitation is not in the divinity of the work. As one gifted writer has suggested, when the infinite fulness is poured forth, it is not the oil's fault if there is some loss because finite vessels can't quite contain it all. Those finite vessels include you and me, so be patient and kind and forgiving."

--Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Remember...

Smartest Man in the World

A doctor, a lawyer, a little boy and a priest were out for a Sunday afternoon flight on a small private plane. Suddenly, the plane developed engine trouble. In spite of the best efforts of the pilot, the plane started to go down. Finally, the pilot grabbed a parachute and yelled to the passengers that they better jump, and he himself bailed out.

Unfortunately, there were only three parachutes remaining.

The doctor grabbed one and said "I'm a doctor, I save lives, so I must live," and jumped out.

The lawyer then said, "I'm a lawyer and lawyers are the smartest people in the world. I deserve to live." He also grabbed a parachute and jumped.

The priest looked at the little boy and said, "My son, I've lived a long and full life. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Take the last parachute and live in peace."

The little boy handed the parachute back to the priest and said, "Not to worry Father. The smartest man in the world just took off with my back pack."

Moral: Your job doesn't always define you, but being a Good Human being Does.
