Thank you for ALL you do!
I do believe the greatest gift we are given is the community of people around us, those who believe in what we do and help us realize our dreams. As we move through this holiday season, celebrating love, peace, giving and sharing I want to also take time to celebrate the community that surrounds us and to say thank you.

I know you are busy but I want you to know what you have done as part of the Ganesh Himal Community.

  • You have partnered with us to increase our sales of Fair Trade products from Nepal by over 16% this year, which has enabled us to increase our buying from our Fair Trade partners in Nepal by the same margin.
  • You have joined us in the Fair Trade Clothing Revolution and helped us to substantially increase our clothing sales, making Fair Trade clothing a viable alternative to clothing produced in dangerous sweatshops .
  • You have rallied behind the Power of 5 and helped us to raise over $18,000 for girl's educational scholarships in Nepal.
  • Through your purchases you have not only provided fair wages for hundreds of marginalized producers in Nepal but you have contributed to worker's development funds, scholarship programs for children whose mothers are in shelters and to the continuation of a rural clinic in Nepal that is serving over 3000 people a year.
Alone we can do none of this. Together we are accomplishing great things and we are so grateful for your continued support. We cannot do this without you!

Recently I read a wonderful quote by Anne Frank, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world" to which I would add, how wonderful that we are surrounded by a community who has taken that statement to heart and is actively working hard to make the world a better place for everyone.

Thanks for all that you do in the world and for partnering with Ganesh Himal Trading, believing in what we do and helping us to realize our dreams for Fair Trade in Nepal and in the world.

Happy Holidays!

Ganesh Himal Trading Community Events in Spokane!

Power of 5 Fundraising Event & Indiegogo Campaign

On November 23 Ganesh Himal hosted and the amazing Austin organized the second annual Power of 5 Fundraiser.
This great event, brought together many local businesses, over 100 guests and featured local music, a presentation on the importance of educating girls, delicious food and fair trade shopping!
Austin did an awesome job organizing this event!
The local Spokane event raised nearly $5,500 for the Power of 5! That's 1,084 months of schooling for the girls in Nepal! Our goal is to raise $18,000 per year to keep 180 girls in school and this event put us well on the way to doing that!
At the request of out of town folks we also launched an Indiegogo online crowdfunding campaign and have been able to extend fundraising beyond the local community! So far we have raised $4,734 online, just $266 short of our goal of $5,000. The Indiegogo campaign ends December 30th. We need to reach our $5,000 goal by then so we'd love your help! It will just take 27 more people donating $10 to reach that goal!  To get involved & donate please visit

The Festival of Fair Trade & Half the Sky

Ganesh Himal celebrated their 29th Annual Festival of Fair Trade in Spokane over Thanksgiving Weekend. This is a fun tradition for us and the Spokane community. It highlights Fair Trade and gives local shoppers a chance to talk with direct importers.
In addition, Sarah, from Ganesh Himal, arranged a screening of the documentary Half the Sky at a local theater during the Festival of Fair Trade. "People who come to the Festival of Fair Trade are those that want to learn and participate in creating a better world" says Denise Attwood, "we want to give them access to ways of learning that will help them understand our power to make change, viewing Half The Sky will do that.  Fair Trade and education of young impoverished girls goes hand in hand. We want our customers to understand that and be participants in making it happen." Prior to the movie, Denise spoke on "Moving Beyond Paralysis: Steps for Making Positive Change" talking about how Half the Sky inspired her to create the Power of 5 campaign for girls education in Nepal.
Hundreds of shoppers came to the Festival and made it a huge success and close to another $1,000 was raised for the Power of 5!
