This winter has been a time of reflection, especially with the passing of my mom. Looking back at all of the beauty she brought into the world I am saddened by the loss but so grateful for the gifts. Reflection is good, and for me this looking back has led me to reflect on the 28 years of Fair Trade that my mom has been so much a part of. Looking back makes me realize how far we have come as Fair Traders together... the friendships made, the gifts exchanged, the lessons learned, the dream unleashed. It makes me grateful for all of you in my life, our producer partners, our store customers and all who have worked hard to make Fair Trade happen.
Now as the days become lighter and the snow is melting (some!) it is time to look forward, take all of our collective knowledge and chart the path ahead. We have a lot to look forward to!
Sarah, Austin and I are traveling to Nepal next week to start working on another round of beautiful products. Sarah will be documenting it all on camera and will be working on getting that information out to you on the website as the year progresses. She will be updating our Facebook page while we are in Nepal so be sure to "like" Ganesh Himal Trading on Facebook and follow along! Austin will be adding her great eye for design to help create great selling products and last, but definitely not least (you all know this!) Eileen will be keeping the office running smoothly in our absence! With the help of Ric and Michele they will keep your orders heading out the door.
While in Nepal we will meet with the staff from the Association for Craft Producers to discuss the success of the "Power of 5" campaign and the expansion of the Girl Child Education Fund! To date over $8500 has been raised through our community efforts (see article below) and ACP is thrilled to be able to expand the scholarship program to extend beyond 3 years! Keep selling those Power of 5 bookmarks and we'll get you an update soon! Funding this scholarship program will give these girls so much to look forward to!
So, we look forward to an amazing year (again!) together, full of producer stories and successes, great products and projects and wonderful sales and friendship. As we look forward to the renewal that Spring brings it reminds me of one of my favorite Indian proverbs..."All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today". Thanks for helping us spread those seeds! HAPPY SPRING!
