ENVISION STUDENTS BEAT THE ODDS!

New Stanford University research

shows that Envision Schools are

closing the opportunity gap and

helping low-income students achieve!

"I wasn't very persistent before...but now, I know how

to stay on top of my game and really push...

[CAT] helped me with persistence and assertiveness."

We are thrilled to share with you the results of a Stanford University study released last week, Student-Centered Schools, showing that minority and low-income students at our schools are beating the odds.  Impact Academy and City Arts & Tech are two of the four schools Stanford examined for this project.

While nationally, students of color and low-income students achieve at a lower level than their more advantaged peers, Envision students are proof that this does not have to be the case: our students are graduating, completing the required A-G courses, and staying in college all at significantly higher rates than the averages for their districts, the state, and nationally.

You'll find more info on the study by visiting the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE) project page, while you'll access the case studies for CAT and IA by clicking the images to the right.

In this independent study, Stanford researchers used quantitative data to track achievement and extensive observations, surveys, and interviews to document the Envision practices leading to stronger student engagement, achievement, and attainment.

CAT Case Study

IA Case Study

College Persistence

CAT graduates are staying in college!  While only 8.3% of all low-income students nationwide earn a bachelor's degree by their mid-20s, 72% of 2008 graduates and 85% of 2009 graduates are persisting in college into their 4th and 5th years.  The national college persistence rate for all incomes is 65%.  (Due to Impact's newness, the study did not look at persistence rates for IA graduates.)

Graduation Rates

CAT's graduation rates for African American, Latino, and English-learner students are significantly higher than the district and the state:

IA's graduation rates for African American, Latino, English-learners, and economically disadvantaged students are significantly higher than the district and the state:

A-G Course Completion Rates

99% of CAT's 2012 graduates completed the required A-G coursework for acceptance into the UC/CSU systems.  The district rate is 56%.  The data is even more striking by demographics:

100% of IA's 2012 graduates completed the required A-G coursework.  Their district rate is 44%, and again, the data is stark:

Get the Whole Story

The full case studies make great reading.

They tell the stories of CAT and IA, with voices of our students, teachers, and administrators, and they include descriptions of the many tools and strategies we use to help students succeed.  Click those images at the top of this email to read more.

And then share the good news with your friends and families: our schools are working for low-income, minority youth!
