East Kentucky and Beyond
  • The 3rd Annual AIA EKC Design Slam will be held at West 6th Brewing on Saturday, June 13, to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Stay tuned for additional details about this exciting event!
  • The City of Sacramento is soliciting statements of qualification from architect firms for design services for the proposed Sacramento Fire Station. The intended project includes construction of a 13,000 sq. ft. fire department and proposals are due on May 15, 2015. See additional info here

  • The AIA National Convention 2015 will be held May 14-16 in Atlanta, Georgia

College of Design
  • The CoD will hold its 6th annual End of Year Show on Friday, May 8th, at Pence Hall. A reception for graduating students and their families will be held from 6-7pm. General reception
    will be held from 7-9pm.
  • Fourth year Interiors student Brittany Holian and fourth year architecture student Tanner Smith were honored by the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society with the Maurice A. Clay Award. The students were recognized for their superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character.   

  • Associate Professor Anne Filson and Assistant Professor Gary Rohrbacher in the UK/CoD School of Architecture recently completed a design residency in Milan during Milan Design Week. Their finished pieces were the result of a collaboration with Opensource Wunderkammer Tecnificio and WeMake, and were featured on the architecture and design website Domus.

  • Associate Dean for Administration Mark O'Bryan and architecture Professor Melody Farris Jackson will present their paper, entitled "Contexting our Perceptions of the Past: Transformations of Making", at the 12th European Architectural Envisioning Association Conference in Lodz, Poland in September. The main topic of the conference is "Image, Perception and Communication of Heritage". 

     

Learning Opportunities
 
Understanding and Applying the KY Energy Codes

 

AIA Kentucky, in conjunction with the Code Administrators Association of Kentucky and the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, is offering this seminar as an overview for design professionals, commercial contractors, code officials and developers as they prepare for the 2012 IECC. It will briefly touch upon the residential provisions of the 2009 IECC, while focusing primarily on the critical concepts of the commercial provisions of the 2012 IECC and the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Standard. This program will earn six (6) AIA/CES Learning Units in Health, Safety & Welfare topics, and is being offered in four locations on four dates.
