Oilfield related businesses developing around San Angelo

As you would expect we are seeing more and more people interested in opening an oilfield service related business, due to the activity in the Wolfcamp and now Cline Shale plays. Partly due to the knowledge we learned from our SBDC colleagues working with clients in the Eagle Ford Shale area southeast of here, we have successfully helped a number secure financing and get started. Please see us if you are interested in starting an oilfield related service business or you are an existing business servicing the oilfield and need assistance. As always our advising services are free and confidential.

Sincerely,

ASU-SBDC Director

Business is good in San Angelo for most firms. The influx of companies and workers related to the oilfield have created a lot of demand for goods and services, more so with some than others. This same increase in business will attract competitors who want to take advantage of this growth. We have seen this in restaurants, hotels and other areas...

Have you ever taken a cake or some homemade bread to a party or friend and have them brag on it and proclaim that you should open your own bakery? Maybe the first time, you were flattered and quickly dismissed the suggestion. But the compliments kept coming as did the suggestions to start your own business and now you have given some serious thought.

You want to open a business. You know almost exactly how much it will cost to start: supplies, furniture, rent, utilities, etc. But what about sales tax? As a new business owner this will be one of the first taxes you will pay once you start selling your product or service. After setting up your company either as a sole proprietor, partnership, LLC, etc., you will need to visit the State Comptroller's Office to find out about your sales tax responsibility..
