Greetings!
Some of you have heard about the Cline Shale oil and gas field discovery that runs from Reagan and Irion counties up through Stonewall County, a 140-mile-long and 70-mile-wide area.
It is expected by some to eventually produce ten times the volume of oil and gas that the Eagle Ford Shale field has projected to produce. The Eagle Ford Shale play covers more than 20,000 square miles in the area from Eagle Pass to Halletsville, which is approx. 100 miles southwest of Houston.
If the Cline Shale field plays out as expected it will create great opportunities for small businesses and potential chaos in terms of the pressure on local infrastructure. To give you an idea of the economic impact of the Cline Shale, see this report on the Economic Impact of the Eagle Ford Shale produced in May of 2012.
On behalf on the staff of the ASU SBDC, Happy Holidays to each of you and your families.
Sincerely,
Dave Erickson,
ASU-SBDC Director
