GOT QUESTIONS? Ask the Broker!
|
"What does your REALTOR do?"
Answer:
Once in a while, a brand new client finds us online, comes down and purchases a home on that first visit. They often joke, "Well this must have been your easiest commission!" But that rarely happens. Most of the time we hear from people that are considering a possible relocation when they retire and Delaware is on their list. They may also be considering other areas including the Carolinas, Florida, or perhaps retiring right where they currently live. So what should your REALTOR be doing when you are not with them and when they are not with another client? There is a lot your Active Adults Realty REALTOR does to be ready to help you when the time is right. In short, your REALTOR works just as hard when he or she is not with you. Delaware and Taxes!
"I thought Delaware has lower taxes!" is a buyers' comment we often hear. Delaware does have lower taxes than almost any state in the Mid-Atlantic or the Northeast, but how low depends on where you buy and in what neighborhood. Recently, we have worked with clients from Long Island, Northern NJ and CT that are currently paying property taxes of $15K to $20K+ per year and that's not all. The real problem seems to be how much their taxes have continued to go up. As you start planning for retirement, a growing tax liability is scary. Delaware not only has lower property taxes and no sales tax, it's a really nice place to live. Read more about property taxes in Delaware.

Non-Profit Spotlight: Meals on Wheels
|

During the holidays we give a annual donation to Meal on Wheels, Lewes-Rehoboth to help them continue caring for our community members in need. Founded in 1970, it was the first home-delivered meal program in the state. The organization provides two meals a day, 365 days a year to more than 200 homebound residents in the Lewes, Rehoboth and Harbeson areas. Meals, catered by Fish On Restaurant in Lewes, are delivered to the homebound by volunteers.
According to the organization's website, "There is a misconception throughout the state that Eastern Sussex County is populated with only wealthy retirees, who remain forever youthful and healthy. Unfortunately, this is not so. Even a more than modest retirement account can be wiped out almost overnight when catastrophic and/or chronic illness comes to call. If you were to compare the cost of institutionalization with the cost of providing home delivered meals, you will surely see that the Meals on Wheels program is a cost effective alternative." Meals on Wheels wonderfully dedicated, volunteers make this distribution a reality. Working 2 hours a week, making a round trip of 25 to 40 miles, they deliver 10 to 20 meals. Client numbers being on the rise, recruitment of additional drivers is ongoing. Click here to learn about volunteering.
