Boomers: Planning for the Future

Cheap and Easy, but is D-I-Y Estate Planning better than nothing?

Cheap, easy and better than nothing, that's what DIY estate planning proponents say. "Americans are do-it-yourselfers, but what if those documents are invalid, ineffective, or contain legal language having consequences that you never intended," asks Michael Loftus at Loftus Wealth Strategies.

"Americans, by and large, are do-it-yourselfers. Books, websites, software programs, and even giant box stores exist solely to help ambitious Americans tackle all kinds of everyday challenges, from fixing leaky faucets to building backyard sheds. The same holds true for estate planning--there's certainly no dearth of information for those wanting to prepare their own wills and other important documents. However, do-it-yourselfers may want to exercise a bit of caution here.

Although DIY sources can typically handle the needs of simple estates, they generally are not appropriate for even the most common complexities such as children from a prior marriage.

Who may suffer the lasting consequences if you make a mistake? Why do D-I-Y sources generally fail in sophisticated estate planning strategies?  CLICK HERE to find out.

DELAWARE MEDICINE

Please Share... What's up with your docs

Moving to a different state requires a lot of changes including finding a new doctor - someone reliable, someone trustworthy, and someone professional. Please help us build a resource of good doctors, practices, specialists or labs by sharing your knowledge base with other new Delaware residents.
As the saying goes, "word of mouth is the best form of advertising," we are hoping you can let us know, "What's up with your Docs? The information we receive from this request, can help make the search easier for other Boomers looking to set up new medical services upon their arrival. It's easy, just send us your comments via email regarding which doctors you use and like and if they are taking new patients. By sending us their contact information, we will be able to add them to a resource bank to assist other new residents with their medical checklist.

Attention Boomer Movers: As you consider your new LOCAL life in Delaware, spend time and research your medical options, consider the proximity to the nearest hospital, the emergency response time to your residence, access to primary care physicians and specialists and where you will have to go for specialized treatment.

ARTISTS' CORNER

"Beach View" by Jerry Strum

Beach View By Jerry Strum: "As you notice in the painting it shows the beach and the ocean with no people.  While the color plate feels warm the sky is clear and there is a sense of crispness in the air.  This is not a summer scene with a crowded beach and the air thick with humidity.  This scene is in the fall, this time of year.  When the tourists have left and one might find an almost deserted piece of sand while the days continue to be warm.   It is the time of year all the residents have been waiting all the year to savor."

Jerry Strum is primarily a pastel artist focusing on landscapes in an impressionistic style. He graduated with a degree in education and a minor in art and a graduate degree in special education. After a career as a teacher, principal and supervisor in Maryland and Delaware, he returned to his passion for art.

Jerry found the Rehoboth area a source of inspiration and studied art at University of Delaware, Towson University, Clarion University and Hood College. He has studied with international artist Vo Dinh, watercolorist Ken Hosmer, as well as, local pastel artist Nick Serratore. His work has been exhibited at Rehoboth Art League, Milton Art League, Beebe Hospital Benefit, Epworth Church and the YMCA.  Jerry regularly shows his work at the Sussex YMCA and the Rehoboth Art League. He can be contacted via email at jcdstr@msn.com.
