Chunkers May Move To Dover

In the Delaware Business Daily, Doug Rainey reports, "The Punkin  Chunkin event may move from its Sussex County location to Dover International Speedway this fall.

The event was looking at other locations after the current landowner wanted to end holding the event. That led to concerns that the event could move to a location in neighboring Maryland. According to the reports, The World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association WCPCA is currently seeking approval of its membership body for its fall 2014 event location. To read the Article, Click Here.

On Wednesday, June 18, bikers, runners, walkers and politicians met at Cape Henlopen State Park for the official opening of the new Gordons Pond Trail, a 3+ mile trail connecting Herring Point in Cape Henlopen State Park to North Rehoboth Beach's Gordons Pond area.

ARTISTS' CORNER

"Blue Horizon" by Jean MacMillian Bowers

This painting by Jean MacMillan Bowers called Blue Horizon is currently on exhibit at the Cape Artists Gallery at 110 W. 3rd Street in Lewes.  It is a 12 x 36" oil painting and framed in silver colored wood by the Rehoboth Art and Frame Shop in the Midway Shopping Center.  It is done in an impressionistic style and depicts the Cape Henlopen shoreline on a hazy, misty, blue day.

The artist, recently relocated from Northern Virginia to Sussex County Delaware and is finding inspiration for her paintings primarily in the Delaware countryside, the farms, the ocean.

Most recently discovering oils, Jean is devoting all of her time to exploring this medium and finding ways to make it offer similar qualities to watercolor.
In exploring Delaware's natural beauty, Jean is never without her camera. Her photographs serve as a springboard for her imagination.  Jean would call her style impressionistic. The viewer should be able to just barely recognize a scene but also experience some emotional connection to the depicted places.

Jean is a member of the Rehoboth Art League,
Cape Artists of Lewes, the Milton Art Guild, and Delaware By Hand. Jean exhibits her work regularly. Her painting of the Blue Ridge Mountains has been on exhibit at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover.
