Microsoft Stops Support of Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003 and Server 2003 April 8. Are You Protected?
Boomers Laptop
What do you need to do to avoid system failures and hacking?

According to Technology Consultant Matthew Hart at SmartHomes of Delaware in Lewes, "Without Microsoft's support, using discontinued products puts you at risk for hackers, system disruptions, lost productivity and costly remedies. The affected products are Microsoft Office 2003, Windows XP and Server 2003." If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.

YOUR TIME IS LIMITED. Be Proactive.Matt suggests upgrading your system from Windows XP to Windows 7.  Click Here To Read What Else You Need To Do

THE LOCAL LIFESTYLE

Boomer Business Blossoms in Delaware

So you're settled in your new home, are you ready for some Business Workshops and Education Seminars?

A survey by Small Business Labs posted online at www.smallbizlabs.com, studying the attitudes related to working past traditional retirement age, finds "a large percentage of older workers tend to be self-employed and/or start micro-businesses." Continuing on, "...about 27% of Americans aged 65+ that are still in the workforce are self-employed, compared to about 10% of the overall workforce." It's also clear from this survey that small business formation will be increasing as baby boomers choose to work past 65.
Many of our clients have arrived with second careers and cottage businesses and are looking to keep on with their active lives. If you are considering starting a new Delaware business or are just interested in learning more about today's social marketing scene,

PHOTO FEATURE
Stained Glass Project By Phil Martin
Last month's photo featured three of the 26 stained glass windows in the Lydia B. Cannon Museum, home of the Milton Historical Society. After shooting the first three, I became fascinated with all of the windows: their symbols, the people who presented the windows or in whose name a window was presented, and the origins of the windows. This sparked a research effort that I am still very heavily engaged in, using genealogy tools and other digitized sources as well as such printed material as is available locally. Instead of one photo this month, the link below will take to you to a gallery of all the photos of all the windows except for two which are inaccessible. The photos are annotated with explanations of the symbols and anything I've been able to find so far regarding the dates of the persons named and what kind of lives they led. Hovering with a mouse over portions of a window will reveal whatever annotation I've been able to put together. As for who made the windows, I'm in the process of searching out the names of the likely candidates from Baltimore in the early 1900's, with the front runner being a student of Louis Tiffany and John LaFarge. With the help of members of MHS and the community, I am looking for direct evidence in the form of an invoice, letter, contract, or contemporary newspaper article connecting the artist to the commission. I hope to have an answer with which MHS concurs by the time the next newsletter comes out. Visit Phil's website at www.philmartinphoto.com or
FEATURED BOOMERS
Sophie & Ted Krezel
"Locals Now!" recently interviewed Sophie and Ted Krezel who moved to Holland Mills in Milton in March 2013 for our Featured Boomer column. The Krezel's relocated from Wayne, New Jersey via Loveland, Colorado where they lived for five years. Sophie was a former Speech Therapist while Ted owned a Hardware Store. At this time they are both enjoying retirement in Delaware.

LN: Where else did you consider before buying in Delaware? What were the most important factors in making your choice?

SK: We looked in South Jersey. We sought out the availability of suitable, affordable housing in a location near beaches and, of course, low taxes.

LN: Why did you choose Holland Mills?

TK: The Neighborhood is near the seashore towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.
