The Boomers' History Of THE WINTER OLYMPICS
I read this article by Bill Hogan in the February edition of the AARP Bulletin (it's also on the AARP website), and thought I'd share it. In it he reminds us that in 1960, Walt Disney produced the opening and closing ceremonies in Squaw Valley, California. In 1968, heartthrob Jean-Claude Killy wins the triple crown of alpine skiing (downhill, giant slalom and slalom), making him the most recognized skier of his generation....

The Impact of Health-Care Costs on Social Security
In an article from titled The Impact of Health-Care Costs on Social Security, Michael sources Fast Facts & Figures About Social Security, 2013 and offers the following commentary on health care costs and their impact on your Social Security.
For many retirees and their families, Social Security provides a dependable source of income. In fact, for the majority of retirees, Social Security accounts for at least half of their income (Source: Fast Facts & Figures About Social Security, 2013). However, more of that income is being spent on health-related costs each year, leaving less available for other retirement expenses.
The importance of Social Security
Social Security is important because it provides a retirement income you can't outlive. In addition, benefits are available for your spouse based on your benefit amount during your lifetime, and at your death in the form of survivor's benefits. And, these benefits typically are adjusted for inflation (but not always; there was no cost-of-living increase for the years 2010 and 2011). That's why for many people, Social Security is an especially important source of retirement income.

Survey says: 10 Best Jobs For Baby Boomers
An article in The Fiscal Times by Steve Yoder, cites a 2008 AARP survey of older workers found that 88% want a friendly work environment in their next position, and 74% a flexible schedule. A total of 38% say they're looking for part-time work, while 34 percent would like to work from home.
The article continues stating that "Most people who continue working after retirement age don't stay on in their current jobs, according to Boston College's Sloan Center on Aging & Work. Instead, they leave for "bridge" jobs - the jobs that span the period between quitting a career job and leaving the labor force for good. " What are the best positions for Baby Boomers? Kerry Hannon, AARP's jobs expert's book Great Jobs for Everyone 50+ groups the best positions for seniors into these ten categories...

Stained Glass Triptych By Phil Martin
Twenty-six treasures are in plain view within the Lydia B. Cannon Museum, run by the Milton Historical Society of Milton, DE. These are the stained glass windows, of which only three are pictured, that were created ca. 1906 for the former Grace Methodist Protestant Church now housing the museum. Records indicate that they were made in Baltimore, but the maker is unknown; there is some speculation that it was a student of Tiffany. In any event, the windows show the style popular at the time of the American renaissance of stained glass-making. The windows underwent extensive restoration in 2006 by Jeanne Camarda, a Milton restoration artist; the Cape Gazette issue of April 20, 2006 describes the incredibly delicate and time-consuming task of restoration she undertook. The windows alone are worth a trip to this interesting little museum. Visit in the afternoon on a sunny day to see the round window in the photo, on the building's west wall, set ablaze by sunlight.
