THE LOCAL LIFESTYLE:

Chefs Share Their Brunch Favorites

On New Year's Eve, most people celebrate the passing of another year by partying with friends at a favorite restaurant or bar; or attending a blowout bash at the beach. But the morning after it all, is all about comfort and the food.

Inviting everyone over for New Year's Day requires some menu planning. Kick off your new year with the festive flavors of this fancy brunch menu that includes Guidelines to Build a fresh Citrus Juice and Bloody Mary Bar (served with or without alcohol) and your first 2014 Signature cocktail, too. Hangovers are to be expected, so scrumptious spreads of seafood, meats and nuts, decadent breadpuddings and crispy morsels are a must!

Our Chef-inspired New Year's Brunch Menu is courtesy of these superior chefs Richard Nofi at Bethany Blues, Lion Gardner of The Blue Moon, Debbie Viscovie at Food by Design, Gretchen Hanson at Hobo's,Jon Orlando at Just In Thyme Restaurant, Ginger Brenneman at MIXX, Scott Viselli from Papa Grandes, Kris Etze, and Ted Deptula from Nage Restaurant and Root Gourmet

On The Menu:STRAWBERRY MIXXMOSA!, AHI TUNA POKE, HANGOVER SEAFOOD COCKTAIL, APPLE, CARROT and WALNUT SALAD, CREME BRULEE FRENCH TOAST, PORK BELLY BREAKFAST HASHwith FRIED EGG, CHESTNUT BREAD PUDDING, PARMESAN GRITS, PECAN PIE BREAD PUDDING

and LEMON TOFU CHEESECAKE

If hosting brunch is a little too much for you, try inviting your guests to an afternoon open-house party. All you need are a few easy appetizers and a signature cocktail or two, and you'll be ready to entertain. Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year and... Salute! 4. Expiring provisions

TASTE LOCAL: Fish-On in Lewes

By Bill Bell, REALTOR

Lewes, DE - For a convenient but good meal, Kathy and I often go to FISH ON in Lewes. Located at the Village of Five Points, it's easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The drinks are good, and the food is great. Kathy likes the Crabcake. It is not your traditional Maryland Crabcake but very good just the same. They have a great Ceasar Salad and I usually get Fried Shrimp. They are not always on the menu but if you ask, they can usually make them for you. I have had many people say the Shrimp & Grits is very good and very authentic. I can't say myself, I don't do grits. I'm not quite sure what "a grit" is for that matter, but they are good. I also like that FISH ON still serves bread with your meal, something that many places have stopped. So, if you are in the mood for some good seafood, give it a try. Also, they have a nice private room for parties or functions if you have anything coming up.

PHOTO FEATURE
Abandoned Barn by Phil Martin

Inland Sussex County is peppered with old barns, some of which are still in use. The barn in the photo is just at the edge of Milton's historic downtown area on Willow Street, and appears to have been out of use for many years. I was attracted to its crazy-quilt appearance, particularly on the east wall, because of the patchwork of rusted metal plates, painted boards and odd lumber pieces that have been used to shore it up. Once painted a bright red, faded remnants can be seen throughout the structure.
