ONE Archives Gallery & Museum Presents:
Steven Arnold: Cabinet of Curiosities
ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives presents a retrospective exhibition of never before seen works by acclaimed California-based queer artist, photographer, filmmaker and protégé of Salvador Dalí, Steven Arnold (1943-1994).
Opening Reception:
Exhibition on view
October 27, 2012 - January 13, 2013
ONE Archives Gallery & Museum 626 North Robertson Boulevard West Hollywood, CA 90069 Steven Arnold: Cabinet of Curiosities celebrates Arnold's radical imagination, presenting many of his tableaux vivant photographs alongside never before exhibited drawings, sketchbooks, paintings and original poster art. In conjunction with the exhibition, ONE will screen Arnold's four films, including Luminous Procuress (1970), which featured The Cockettes and was lauded by Salvador Dali. Luminous Procuress brought Arnold considerable attention as an avant-garde filmmaker, and so impressed Salvador Dali that he invited Arnold to Spain to assist in embellishing and inaugurating his Theatre-Museum Dali.
Steven Arnold: Cabinet of Curiosities is organized by David Frantz, Curator at ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives. Generous support for exhibitions and programming during ONE's 60th Anniversary is provided by Wells Fargo.

Fronteras Alternativas:
Queer Latina/o Visibilities and Insurgencies
November 1, 2012, 7pm
Doheny Memorial Library Friends of the USC Libraries Lecture Hall, Room 240 USC University Park Campus This panel discussion explores the intersections of queer and Latina/o art, aesthetics and performance through a dialogue with Dino Dinco, an artist, filmmaker and curator whose work has been exhibited internationally; Raquel Gutiérrez, a writer, performer and founder of several queer-women-of-color, community-based art and literary projects; scholar Robb Hernandez, whose dissertation focused on queer Chicano art and aesthetics in East Los Angeles; and artist Joey Terrill, a formative figure in the Chicano art movement and AIDS cultural activism. Addressing often obscured or omitted histories of queer and Latina/o cultural production in Los Angeles, the speakers will consider how such legacies affect contemporary art practice and their relation to "the archive." Presented by Visions and Voices: The USC Arts & Humanities Initiative. Organized by ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at USC Libraries.
