Chicken Update
The new chickens are doing so well! We have not lost a single chicken since we first got them, although we lost two in the first few days - a common occurrence.

By spring they should be laying eggs. Good thing, as I am only getting one egg a day from the 7 hens we have left. Might be time to stew some chickens!

This gives you a good look at the inside of the movable chicken house that Allan fabricated from an old 5th wheel camper frame. It is working out so perfectly. Very soon we will be moving it out to the pasture, setting up electric fencing, and letting these chickens run free.

Love those darn chickens!

Happy Birthday, Allan!

Allan turns 65 on the 8th of December - a new milestone.

Next year Social Security. Sure hope there is some left.

Making Deer Sausage

Allan got a nice buck this hunting season and we made deer sausage for the first time ever. It was quite an experience, and I can say for sure that we learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. Our daughter Lisa and her family gave us the grinder/stuffer last Christmas.

We made summer sausage. It turned out a little too salty, and I smoked it at least an hour too long. The casings split and the meat is a bit dry. Tastes pretty good with cheese, crackers, and veggies, though. I am thinking it might be really nice with the sauerkraut that I fermented.

That being said, we will not give up and plan to try another batch soon. We used a package of spices this past time, but next time I plan to use a recipe from a sausage book that we have. I would not suggest contacting us for tips on sausage making any time soon, though.
Holiday Gift Boxes

To make your Christmas shopping easier we have added holiday Gift Boxes to our lineup.

We are offering Beef. Lamb, and Combo boxes in four different sizes - $75, $100, $200, and $300.

You can combine these, or add other products or packages from our regular lineup, to take advantage of the volume discounts available for orders of $200 or more.

Give one to a friend - give one to yourself!

Standing Rib Roasts

Just wanted to remind you that we have some really beautiful Standing Rib Roasts again this year.

Regular price is $18.99 per pound, but this month take $1.00 off per pound.

Approximately 5.5 to 9 pounds per roast.

In Closing . . .
Once again we want to thank you for your loyalty to GrassRoots Meats. Grass finished beef is more readily available these days and you have more choices. We hope that what we offer is a step above the rest, and that you value knowing where your meat comes from. Thank you for choosing us.

God bless you and your family this Christmas. In the hustle and bustle I pray we can remember the reason for the season. He reigns!
