Where is the snow?
OK, so sometimes we complain when it snows, and sometimes we just downright fuss about it. But this year we can't remember what it looks like. Ranchers are getting concerned but their hope is that we will get our much needed precipitation in February and March, usually our wettest months. In the meantime we are praying and asking for favor on this area. The fires last summer frightened all of us and we would not like to have to deal with that again this year.
Not to mention the fact that Navajo Lake has been extremely low ever since Allan and I moved to Arboles. One thing we were really looking forward to was being able to enjoy the lake, even if it was just to look at it. It is so low that more often than not we can't even see any water.
God is good, and we know we are in His hands. Please pray for rain and snow for the Southwest.

Chef Driven
Last year Dan Mull, executive producer for Stage Multimedia, Ltd, invited us to be a part of a 5 episode series that they were producing for Denver Public Television, Channel 12. In late spring the crew came to Pagosa Springs and Frank Bonanno, executive chef, interviewed us while the crew filmed both us and the animals. Chef Driven premiered on January 26th, and we were invited to the VIP Premier Party in Denver. Not only did we feast on some wonderful food and drink, but we thoroughly enjoyed getting to visit with the folks who made the show possible. The first episode centered around a fish farm in Alamosa, Colorado. GrassRoots Meats will be featured on episode 3, to be aired on Sunday, February 9th, at 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. If you do not get Denver television and would like to see the show, once it airs your can view it at Colorado Public Television 12. If you are able to watch the show on televison, depending on your source the listing for the show may say Chef Driven, or Bonanno Project.

Happy Cattle
These are a few of the animals we will be processing this summer. They are doing well and Allan is very pleased with how they look and how they are finishing. He says this is probably the best set of early summer slaughter calves we have ever had.
Allan was in Oklahoma for 2 weeks in January and I was left to feed and water the animals. One thing I learned was the importance of water to the cattle during the winter. The animals are emptying this 350 gallon trough every two days, but they are thriving and the water is an important contributing factor.

Your Cell Phone and Do Not Call
Looks like soon our cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies and you will probably start receiving sales calls. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
This is the National DO NOT CALL list. It only takes a minute of your time and it blocks your number for five years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked - you cannot call from a different phone number.

In Closing . . .
It wouldn't be a February newsletter if we didn't mention the Superbowl. Go Broncos !!! Colorado is Bronco crazy even when our team isn't the best, but this year the fans are hysterical. We are really looking forward to watching the Broncos win on Sunday. How is that for confidence?
Yeah, Broncos !
