Principal's Message
Dear Murwood Families,

Please consider signing up for Community Service Day.  We need help inventorying boxes for STEM projects for science with Mrs. Sicotte.  Mr. Nenni and I will be refurbishing the Murwood mosaic.  If you have experience sanding and staining, please call the office.

Please mark your calendars NOW for our first Murwood Parent Education Night!  On Tuesday, October 20, we will hold an evening for parents dedicated to understanding Conceptual Math.  April Cherrington, one of our professional development facilitators from Silicon Valley Math Institute (SVMI) will be here to explain how we are teaching students to think conceptually in math using key strategies and activities that build conceptual understanding, such as Math Talks and tasks that show student thinking.  While it is always important to know the algorithm to solve a problem, students are now being asked to show their thinking in multiple ways.  This approach helps them to take what they have learned and apply it to new problems.  Please join us!

Thank you,
Carol Nenni
Murwood Principal
From the Office
We still have students that are arriving at school prior to 8am.  There is no supervision for them at this time of morning and we don't want this to become an issue as we head into cooler (hopefully rainy!) fall weather.  Please do not drop children off until between 8:00 and 8:15.  If this poses a problem, please contact Keyspot about registering your child(ren) for morning only sessions.  Help us keep our students supervised and safe!
Camp Loma Mar Reminders

On MONDAY, please be at school at 8:30 AM.

Attached is the packing list in both English and Spanish.  Please make sure your child does not bring anything that is not on the packing list, as they won't need it.

LABEL EVERYTHING!!!

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH AN IDEA? LET YOUR IMAGINATION FLY!!!
It is Reflections Art Program time again! Reflections is a national PTA program to promote and support the Arts in schools. The program was  quite successful at our school last year, including two who made it to the state level!

Important things to note:
  • This year's theme is Let Your Imagination Fly. We are accepting 3D artwork for the first time so the sky really is the limit!
  • The six categories are Visual Arts, Photography, Literature (writing), Dance Choreography, Film Production, and Music Composition. Official rules and entry forms are in the office.
  • Entries are due Oct 16. Submissions can be dropped off in the office.
  • 30 of our school entries will be displayed at a Council-level Showcase in December.
Feel free to check out www.capta.org for more information.  All rules and entry forms are in the Reflections box in the office.  If you are interested in helping out or have questions, please contact Stacy Cerruti.

ATTENTION BOOK LOVERS
Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming Book Fair. We'll be open for business the week of October 19-24. We'll be open everyday at lunch for student shopping and again from 2-4 for families to come in after school. For those unable to make it in during the day, we'll be open Tuesday evening from 6:30-8 and Saturday during the Halloween Carnival. All funds raised at the Book Fair go directly to our library, benefiting every student here at Murwood. If you have time, we'd love to have you come volunteer to work at the Book Fair. Please check out our sign up sheet at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0B4BA9AB2DAA8-2015
