Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Thank you, Andrea Slavet, for a beautiful, relaxing end of the year picnic.  It was a fantastic evening with DJ Dave, the photo booth, and treats.  Thank you, families, for spending the evening with us.  It was a perfect end to a great year!

Thank you, Jenny Cruser, and all the parent volunteers who helped to make our toasty Track and Field Day a success.  Thank you, teachers, for the tee shirts, posters, and all the preparation for the big day. The kids enjoyed themselves and there was a real sense of sportsmanship and encouragement seen throughout the day.  Thank you for helping us continue this Murwood tradition.  Anyone interested in helping to take this on next year?  We have an incredibly organized binder and lots of people willing to help!

Thank you, families, for partnering with us again this year to do what is best for children every day.  We strive to create an atmosphere of warm welcome, safety, and academic excellence to help your child be an engaged, successful learner and citizen.

This summer, keep those skills strong by joining Walnut Creek's library summer reading program.  Give your child a notebook in which to write their summer adventures each day.  Ask your child's teacher how to continue to access our IXL math program and Razz Kids for readers.  Most importantly, read as a family.  Remember the fun we had with One School, One Book? You can continue the nightly read alouds this summer with another classic.  Why not read the book you loved as a child?

Stay healthy and safe until we see you again.  Best wishes  to our families moving on to Tice Creek!  Best of luck 5th graders moving on to WCI.  Remember that Mustangs are people of character!  We will miss you!

Thank you,

Carol Nenni

Murwood Principal

From the PTA President

Dear Murwood Families,

It's been an incredible two years as your PTA president, and I want to thank everyone who has donated their time, energy, and money to Murwood PTA. This is an incredible community, and I have very honored to be a part of it.

I hope all of you have a great summer!

MURWOOD IS A BOX TOPS WINNER
Congratulations to Mrs. Pollak's class. They've won the Box Tops competition by bringing in the most labels - 983. They've knocked out three time champ Mrs. Wikander. The students in Room 14 will have a popsicle party sometime this week to celebrate their victory. All in all, Murwood turned in a total of 9,344 Box Tops this year. That's over $900 for our PTA. Thank you for your support and participation this year. Remember to keep clipping over the summer and log into http://www.boxtops4education.com to look for deals, coupons, and contests to win extra Box Tops.

5TH GRADE PROMOTION
The Murwood Class of 2015 Aloha Promotion Ceremony will be this Friday, June 12th, 9:30-11:30 AM.  All fifth grade families are welcome at the celebration which will be followed by a courtyard reception hosted by the Murwood Fourth Grade Class.  Hope to see you there.  Mahalo!

WALKING CLUB NEEDS COORDINATOR

It's been an amazing experience doing walking club over these last four years at Murwood. I'm so grateful to have this PTA program available for our kids and to those who lighted and carried the Walking Club torch over the years. To keep the program running - we need one or two people to step up as our 2015-16 Coordinator!

I've been pretty good with documentation and - although our family will not be at Murwood next year - I will support whoever wants to learn to do it (i.e. schedule volunteers and order rewards). Contact me at [email protected] if you're interested. -Tina Neuhausel

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Do you have a child in grades K-2 at Murwood next year?

Are you looking for a way to contribute to the our Murwood student body but you work during school hours? Helping to coordinate the Afterschool Enrichment Program may be just the thing for you. This is a volunteer job you can work into your own schedule. If you would like to learn more, contact Amy or Adam at [email protected].

WELCOME BACK DAY - AUGUST 20TH

Please mark your calendar - Thursday, August 20th - for the 2015 Welcome Back Day Registration. All families are required to attend and submit the online registration forms in order to receive your teacher assignments.  In addition, we are looking for volunteers to assist us.  Only a few hours of your time is requested and we hope you consider helping out.  Please click here to volunteer.

If you did not yet donate,  please go online today and make a donation or set up your pledge for the 2015-2016 school year. All our children benefit from any donation your family is able to make and remember you can spread your payments out or consider becoming a Sustaining Donor.  Visit the campaign website for complete information and to see the programs your donation supports.   Las Lomas Student Receives Michael W.
De Sa Memorial Scholarship

The ninth annual Michael W. De Sa Memorial Scholarship administered by the Walnut Creek Education Foundation, was awarded in the amount of $2,000 to Las Lomas High school senior, Isabella Younger. The scholarship was presented to Isabella by Lisa and Sam De Sa during  Las Lomas High School Senior Awards Night held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

Isabella was chosen from among 14 Las Lomas seniors who applied for the scholarship, named after the Walnut Creek School District Superintendent who passed away in 2006. Her achievements exemplify the scholarship criterion, which seeks a well-rounded graduate of the Walnut Creek schools (attending K-12) who has nurtured life's passions both in school and outside the confines of academia, through service in the community and other pursuits.  Read more about Isabella Younger and the De Sa Scholarship.
