Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Hopefully, you are all enjoying Chapter 2 of Charlotte's Web tonight.  I'm today's guest reader, so if you don't have time to read, just click on our "Site Shortcuts" and go to the podcast of today's Chapter, "Wilbur."

Congratulations to our fourth and fifth grade classroom spelling bee winners:  Justine, Leila, Luke, Jakob, Kate. Bogdan, Ashley, Noah, Zoe, Samantha, Maria, and Kailani.  Our Murwood school Spelling Bee will be Monday, February 2, at 8:30 AM in the MPR.  Join us to support our contestants!

Thank you,

10:30-1:00pm (two helpers)

Please call the office to let us know if you would be able to help during either time.

From the PTA President

Dear Murwood Families,

We have really started 2015 off with a bang!  Our auction planning is in full swing. One School, One Book started yesterday, and we're looking for volunteers to serve on this year's Nominating Committee (please send me an email if you are interested).  ASE links are now available on the website, and we will be hosting Disco Bingo next week.

Our amazing volunteers put in a great deal of their time and energy to bring you all of these, and we hope that you and your family enjoy them.

Cheers!
Mandy Wells

AUCTION RSVP and Payments
Reminder:  Please return your Auction RSVP and payment in the Wednesday Envelope.  If you wish to order your tickets and pay by credit card, please visit our website.

AUCTION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed for the Auction for Education scheduled for March 14, 2015.  Without parent volunteers, the auction will not be able to take place.  Many of the jobs can be done from home and only require a few hours of your time.  The revenue from the auction supports much-needed programs at Murwood such as the science program, the library, classroom materials and PTA events.   Please visit sign up genius to volunteer.  The next Auction Planning Meeting will be held on January 28, 2015 at 6:30 pm.  Please email Renee Brooks if you will be attending.

WANT TO HOST A THEMED PARTY?
Are you interested in hosting a themed party for the Auction for Education at your home or with a group of parents?  Examples of parties in the past are Mom's Night Out, Daddy and Me Camp Out, Murder Mystery, Bags & Brews and Progressive Dinners.  These parties not only build community at our school but also raise much-needed revenues.  (Last year approx. 20% of our auction donations were a result of these events!) Please email Renee Brooks with your hosting ideas!

From the Library

Each year, Mrs. Durflinger reads the  California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) nominees to students in the library--Primary nominees to grades K-5 and Picture Book for Older Readers nominees to grades 3-5. She also purchases several copies of the Intermediate nominees and encourages 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to read them on their own. Students who read all 3 chapter books will be invited to a lunchtime pizza party and book talk in March.  Students vote in the library toward the middle of March to have their votes counted in the statewide ballot.

The official CYRM results are announced each year on May 1.
