Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who attended our "Homework without Tears" event with Lisa Miller of Classroom Matters last night during our PTA meeting.  We worked on identifying individual learning styles, how to turn off the "broken record" when it comes to motivating children to accomplish their work, how to be a "detective" to ask about time, space, and organization in creating a productive environment for homework. Lisa also provided a very useful "Do's and Don'ts" in helping our children identify and limit distractions. Our plan is to partner with PTA to bring you more topics of interest.  Won't you please consider joining our PTA and attending these meetings?  The PTA membership form is attached.  Join now and we will provide all new members with the "Homework without Tears" handouts!

Please come to our Halloween Carnival this Saturday from 11-3.  Our PTA is putting on another fun bash filled with games sponsored by each classroom, along with our book fair.  We will also have our popular Pet Hug Pack from ARF on site to listen to children read.  NEW THIS YEAR:  ARF Adoption van!  If your child has been longing for a pet, Saturday may be your family's lucky day!  We ask that you do not bring family pets to school events for the health and safety of all.  Thank you.

A reminder about Halloween:   While planning your child's costume, we ask that your child wear safe, school age appropriate costumes, with no bloody, gory, or violent images.  Students cannot carry weapons, wear masks or headgear that obstruct vision or shoes unsafe for walking or play.  Please label the parts of your child's costume so in the event they lose a piece it can be returned to you.

Thank you,

Carol Nenni

Murwood Principal

REFLECTIONS

Thanks to all those who entered this year's PTA Reflections program!  We had amazing entries in visual arts, literature, and music composition.  All entries will be on display in the hallway by the office from 10/21 to 10/28.

COME VISIT THE BOOK FAIR
We'd love to see you stop by the Book Fair this week. We're open at lunch and after school everyday until 4pm this week and on Saturday during the Fall Festival. Our Book Fair is to raise funds for our library. Last year we were able to purchase $4,000 worth of new books because of the success of the Book Fair. It's because of your generosity that we are able to keep all our readers happy.

PRE-ORDER YOUR WIMPY KID
Be sure to get your order forms for the newest Wimpy Kid in soon. These orders get turned in at the end of the Book Fair. If you can't find the form that came in your Wednesday envelope, we have more in the library.

READING TO REACH RAPUNZEL
Don't forget to keep track of how long your kids are reading this week. We're filling up our Rapunzel's Tower in front of the library, but we need you to bring in your reading logs. If you need more, we have extras at the Book Fair. Remember every 20 minutes you document, another brick gets added to the tower. We want to reach the top by the end of the Book Fair.

MURWOOD HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL THIS SATURDAY 11-3

Bust out your Halloween Costume and bring your family for our annual Halloween Carnival this Saturday, Oct 25th.  This free event will bring a smile to your student's face.  Events include:

  • Carnival Games organized by room parents (be on the look-out for opportunities to help)
  • Prize Booth
  • Cake Walk (nominal fee)
  • ARF mobile adoption van and Pet Hug Pack
  • Face Painting
  • Book Fair in the library
  • Tacos for sale until we run out
  • Blush frozen yogurt sales
Games and food vendors are open until 2pm, or until they run out.  The AMAZING Kenn's Adventure Theatre will close the Carnival, performing from  2-3pm in the MPR.

If you're thinking of adopting a pet, this is the perfect time to talk to adoption experts at ARF and meet some of the animals available to go home with you.

Do you love to bake?  We are looking for a few helpful hands to make this carnival a smashing success - including some bakers for the cake walk.   Sign up to volunteer here.
