Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Please join us for our first PTA Parent Education evening on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 7:00 in the MPR.  We'll have guest speaker Lisa Miller of Classroom Matters to present our topic "Homework without Tears."  Lisa will help create a productive home study environment, share different learning styles, and help clarify your role during homework time.  The meeting is open to all MW parents.  Our hope is that you will join PTA and help us continue to bring meaningful programs that help build community.

We need a Fourth Grade parent to take over this year's cartridge recycling program.  Did you know we earn cash back for science camp through printer cartridge recycling?  We recycle at Cartridge World right here in Walnut Creek and receive a small refund for each cartridge donated.  Please call the office if you can help run these downtown once a month.  Thank you!

Thank you,

Carol Nenni

Murwood Principal

From the Office

We still have students that are sitting outside of school prior to 8am.  There is no supervision for them at this time of morning and,  with the cooler (hopefully rainy) weather coming, we don't want this to become an issue.  Please do not drop children off until between 8:00 and 8:15.  If this poses a problem, please contact Keyspot about registering your child(ren) for morning only sessions.  Help us keep our students supervised and safe!

Again, we are being asked by our neighbours to please be mindful of not blocking their driveways, or the streets adjacent to Vanderslice, during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  Let's be kind to our neighbors!

From the PTA President

Dear Murwood Families,

Happy October!  This month is one of the best months at Murwood.  We have a Book Fair, Pumpkin Carving Contest, the Halloween Carnival, and a helpful guest speaker at this month's PTA meeting ( If you struggle with dealing with your kids' homework, you really want to attend this meeting).

We hope you can join us for these great events!

Sincerely,
Mandy Wells
PTA President

WALK-A-THON WRAP-UP

The walk-a-thon team is working quickly to wrap up the loose ends for this event.  We would like to have all monies collected by this Friday, October 10th.   Please make every effort to get your pledged donations into the office by Friday.  Thank you in advance for all your hard work and support of this Murwood PTA event!

WALKING CLUB VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need a couple more volunteers for walking club! We still have a openings on Mondays and Tuesdays from 11:40 - 12:30 and subs for other days.  The kids have been walking like crazy this year - many have already done a half-marathon! Walking Club is a great way for them to get their blood flowing, blow off a little steam, visit with friends, and make new friends.  Please contact Tina Neuhausel if you would like to help. This is a fun volunteer opportunity for someone who likes to be outside and it's rewarding to see how much the kids love doing it.

REFLECTIONS

It's not too late!  Your child still has plenty of time to get creative and enter this year's Reflections Program.  Students who participate in the Reflections Program get an opportunity to explore the arts and recognize themselves as artists.  This year's entries should reflect upon the theme : "The world would be a better place if..."  Program rules and entry forms can be found in the office, or you can go to http://www.capta.org/sections/programs/reflections.cfm for more information. All entries are due to the office by Oct 16. Please contact Stacy Cerruti if you have questions.

AT THE BOOKFAIR, READERS ARE ROYALTY
Everyone in the land is invited to attend our upcoming bookfair supporting the Murwood library. Sir Readalot's Castle will move into the library during the week of October 20-24 and will be open during the Fall Festival on Saturday, October 25. The fair will be open everyday during lunch and again after school from 2-4. We will be holding an evening event on Tuesday night coinciding with the PTA meeting, so your kids can have story time while you are learning about homework strategies from our speaker and can pick up a new book either before or after the meeting. Our bookfair proceeds go directly to the library and is one of our most popular events all year. If you would like to help make it happen, please visit our volunteer signup page.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL OCTOBER 25TH
