Maria Menounos Announces She is Freezing Her Eggs

The 33 Year Old is Ensuring Her Fertility Future Through Egg Freezing

 mariamenounous
Maria Menounos, a TV presenter, announced on Dr. Drew's TV show Lifechangers that she is going to freeze her eggs. "I'm 33, and I decided that I know I have a couple of years of work I want to get to, and then do it." Maria, like many other women, is postponing becoming a mom and putting her work first, which egg freezing allows her to do.  When asked why she decided to go public about this decision she stated, "For me, this is important ... because now we can show women there is an option if you need it and if you want it and if you think it's right for you." Menounos stated she was surprised to learn about how women's fertility declines around the age of forty. She feels freezing her eggs will be a good insurance policy in case when she is ready to start a family she can not get pregnant naturally. Menounos has documented her experience through a video diary-style documentary which can be seen on Lifechangers.

How Old Is Too Old to Have Kids?

New York Magazine Examines the Pros and Cons of Having Children At an Early and Late Age

 cover

A 63 year old pregnant woman is the cover of this month's New York magazine. Unlike Demi Moore who posed in 1991 when she was six months pregnant for Vanity Fair, this woman has been photoshopped. Is this image becoming a reality? "Parents of a Certain Age" addresses how parents are now having children at an older age. The age of first time moms is rising.  While the uterus is relatively "ageless" and women can carry children later in life, natural pregnancy rates decline significantly after 40 due to egg quality. Thus, most of these older moms are using the donated eggs of younger women. Egg freezing allows women to preserve their eggs when they are young and healthy so they can be their own donor when they reach their 40's. Read about families starting to have children in their fifties and ask yourself, how old is too old to have children?
