Principal's Post

Dear Ryland Families,
    Welcome back to school! Each of us here at Ryland looks forward to working with you and your child to meet his or her educational needs, and to help each student continue to grow and make progress.  Our goal is to help make this your child's best school year ever!

Throughout the month of September, we will be giving students an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine your child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, and Math. These assessments will be taken on a computer.

MAP assessments are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child's growth. Your child will spend a total of about three hours completing these tests.

Our Board of Education is dedicated to the growth and success of each child in our district, and MAP is another tool to help us provide a high quality of learning for every student. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.  For more information and resources for parents, go to the Kenton County Web Site (www.kenton.kyschools.us), click on Parents, then click on MAP Assessment or download the Parent Toolkit at MAP Testing - Parent Tool Kit.

Also, don't forget to mark your calendars for our first PTO and Annual Title 1 Meeting to be held on September 8th at 7:00. I also encourage everyone to join the PTO. Membership is only $5 per person. This fee helps to support many positive experiences for your child.

Dear Parent or Guardian:
The educators in The Kenton County School District are committed to providing a quality instructional program for your child. This letter is just one of the ways of keeping you informed of the educational commitment of our schools and our district.
Our district receives federal funds for Title I programs as a part of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Under NCLB, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's teacher(s). If you request this information, the district will provide you with the following:
1. Whether the teacher has met the state requirements for licensure and certification for the grade levels and subject matters in which the teacher provides instruction;
2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived;
3. The college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and
4. Whether your child is provided services by para-educators, and if so, their qualifications.
If you would like to request this information, please contact me by phone at 344-8888 ext. 171 or by email at ellen.zimmer@kenton.kyschools.us. Please include your child's name, the name of the school your child attends, the names of your child's teacher(s) and an address or email address where the information may be sent. Thank you for your interest and involvement in your child's education.
Sincerely,
Ellen Zimmer
Director of Early Childhood Education
Dress Code Reminders

Please remember:
  • Tanks tops are not allowed and shoulders must be covered. It's okay to have a sweater covering, but it must remain on all day.
  • Shorts should be no higher than mid-thigh.   Try the hand test... if you put your hands to your sides, your shorts should reach longer than your hand does!
  • Shoes need to have a strap - no flip flops.
Attendance
Don't be late for an important date!
Just a reminder...tardies or leaving early count against perfect attendance.
Educational Enhancement Requests (EHO)
If you request an EHO (Educational Enhancement Opportunity) This needs to be requested at least a week before absence. If your child is absent and receives an EHO,  the student needs to present to the class what was learned by the experience. A written report also needs to be submitted to the principal before it is excused.
