Family and friends gathering to share the holiday cheer. Potlucks are fun for everyone to enjoy new foods and share favorite recipes. Surprise your guests with a festive and nourishing main dish like lean lamb and then suggest complementary side dishes. Although the term "potluck" suggests a random assortment of dishes, it's likely to turn out better when the host does a little bit of organizing.

Slow Cooker Moroccan Lamb Stew: Easy, Nutritious and Delicious!

 

Whether entertaining friends or just a quiet night home, a slow cooked meal often fits the bill. Imagine walking in the door to the mouthwatering smells of garlic, ginger, cumin, and coriander combined in a simmering lamb stew broth, ready to be served. That's slow cookery at its best!

  1. Start with wholesome ingredients that include fresh fruits and vegetables, aromatic herbs and lean meat. Lamb is a perfect meat for stews because it's rich in nutrients and flavor. 
  2. Follow recipe instructions. Lamb prep tips:
    • 2 pounds of lamb will serve 6 people
    • Trim away any fat
    • Sear or brown the lamb before adding to the slow cooker.

Prep Note: Have the stew pre-made and hot in the slow cooker, then add Swiss chard at the end of segment and serve in a bowl on camera. Top with a spoonful of couscous and a dollop of plain yogurt.

  • To estimate the amount of lamb needed for the party, use this rule of thumb: A 2 pound boneless leg of lamb will serve six and 2 lamb racks will serve eight.
  • Most lamb is sold in supermarkets with fat trimmed to 1/4 or 1/8 inch. You can trim this thin layer of remaining fat before or after cooking.
  • In addition, lamb is available to meet a range of preferences-from natural or organic lamb to lamb that has been exclusively grass-fed or grain finished.
  • All lamb available in the U.S. is raised without the use of artificial hormones.
