JROTC earns "Honor Unit with Distinction"

The CISD Panther Battalion completed its first formal inspection on March 25. The Battalion received a Gold Star with a score of 98%, earning them the highest recognition possible "Honor Unit with Distinction."  The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a program that teaches high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self discipline.

Did you know CISD has the largest JROTC unit in the DFW Metroplex and the 8th largest in the southwest region?

CISD Robotics Team Skypes with KSU Robotics Team

CISD Robotics Team members include:
Talon Frost, Andrew Phung, Rebecca Phung, Zachary Smith, Michael Webb, Kareem Harris, Cristobal Garces, Caleb, Harris, Sam Atchison, and Stephanie Elbana.

The CISD robotics team, along with their Engineering teacher Mr. Charles Weaver, recently had the opportunity to Skype with the Kansas State Robotic Competition Team (KSUCRT) at the Bill R. Johnson CTE Center.  The K-State team is considered a perennial powerhouse in the world of robotics competition. The Skype session gave the high school students the chance to ask college students about college engineering classes, college robotics, as well as campus life. In addition, the CISD robotics team gave a demonstration of their robot and received feedback from the K-State group.

The CISD robotics team placed in the top three at the Ben Barber tournament in Mansfield on February 9, making them eligible for the FIRST Tech Challenge Southwest Regional Championship.

Penny Race Results

Fourteen CISD schools participated in the 19th annual Penny Race to raise $10,000 for the Crowley House of Hope. The non-profit organization uses the proceeds to buy school supplies and uniforms for students in need. S.H. Crowley Intermediate School raised nearly $1,300 to win the trophy for most money collected, while Bess Race Elementary won the trophy for the highest amount donated per capita.
