A Nice Long Weekend!
Have you ever noticed that when you have a Monday off, the week actually feels longer??? That's ok, though...I'll still take the day off!
I am so proud of the leadership we are benefiting from by our 8th graders this year. They have been excellent role models in church, in the hallways, and even during fire drills! This year we
are experimenting with a 1:1 iPad program with them. They will have the opportunity to learn from their iPads the same way the high schoolers do at St. Viator and at Palatine & Fremd. They have spent the first weeks of school setting up their iPads and learning Notability and the other apps they will rely on. They are positively chomping at the bit to have the iPads in their possession all day. In addition to their school work, they are also working on a news video we will show each week here at school as well as a very cool take on the video for the Green & Gold in April. They are surviving being locked out of games and messaging, proving Mrs. Nicholas' point that to date, no one has perished from lack of social media! I look forward to sharing their progress with you in the upcoming weeks.
PowerSchool is now open for grades 6-8. Parents and students should have received their logins and pass codes on Tuesday - please let your child's homeroom teacher know if you did not receive yours or if you are having issues accessing PowerSchool.
The sports teams are in full swing and we enjoyed our first "Pack the Gym" night with the girls volleyball teams on Wednesday.
Next Tuesday is Grandparents Day at STS! The day will start with Mass at 8 am - student should s
it with their grandparents in the student pews so we can pray together as a big multigenerational family. We will all come back to school for refreshments and a visit to the children's classroom(s). There is still time to send me pictures of your child with his/her grandparents - please email them to to: [email protected]
Next Friday is our first Change for Change
of the year! Students may bring change they have earned at home to donate to this month's charity, CureSearch. CureSearch for Children's Cancer's mission is "to end children's cancer by driving targeted and innovative research with measurable results in an accelerated time frame." Our contribution to this organization will help facilitate this research and hopefully lead to a healthy and productive life for a little one. Students may dress down on Change for Change days as a symbol of their support for this charity. Please be sure to check the guidelines for dress down days in the handbook. As a quick summary - your dignity demands modesty, no athletic shorts, pants, spandex, or yoga pants, and yes, you can wear gym shoes!
The Holy Father arrives here in the US in only 12 days! What a great blessing this is for our Nation. I encourage you to pray daily for the success of his visit - that he is safe and healthy and that all of us - from our leaders to our young children - are able to hear what he is telling us which will only bring us to greater happiness.
Thank you for your excellent cooperation with the pick up and drop off procedures. My fellow principals cannot believe it when I tell them how cooperative you are and how concerned you are for all the kids safety! Just one quick reminder - please ask your child to exit on the curb side. The children should be able to unbuckle and hop out. If you get stuck, please wave to me or to the teacher on door duty and we will come and help your child out.
Thank you as well for calling in any changes to your child's schedule before 11:30 a.m. It helps us out tremendously when we know before lunch!
Are ready to clean out those summer clothes? Consider donating them to Schoola!
You get to donate your clothes and the school makes a small profit off of your donation. Labels are available from Mrs. Soby in the school office - please drop off your donations starting on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
Miss Keenley
