Improvements are coming to two buildings across from the Jefferson Park CTA Terminal, according to Alderman John Arena.
A third floor is being added to the two-story "First Staffing" building at 4872 N. Milwaukee Ave. A residential unit will be built on both the second and third floors, and a new façade will feature the building's original brick, which has been covered for years.
Also ... a buyer of the Edward Fox Photography building at 4900 N. Milwaukee Ave. is planning to add two floors of residential units to the one-story, 89-year-old structure, which was once home to a furniture store. The photography studio, which opened in 1902 and moved to Jefferson Park in 1969, is relocating to 6133 N. Northwest Hwy.
Concerns have been raised about whether a bronze statue depicting a photographer from the early 1900s will remain in front of the building. Efforts reportedly are being made to keep the statue there or elsewhere in the community.
And ... don't forget that the Jefferson Playhouse, operated by the Windy City Music Theatre, will be opening soon inside the "Jefferson" building at 4766 N. Milwaukee Ave., where a silent movie house operated 100 years ago!!
