A plan to open a medical marijuana dispensary at 4758 N. Milwaukee in Jefferson Park is moving forward after a state agency gave Curative Health the green light to enter the formal licensing process. The Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals already has approved a special use permit for the project. The zoning board also approved a dispensary proposal for 4060 1/2 N. Milwaukee, but the state did not endorse that project.
State law restricts the number of dispensaries to two in Jefferson Township, which includes all of the NW Side. The second is planned for 6428 N. Milwaukee, pending approval by the zoning board.
Access to the dispensaries will be restricted to those with a medical marijuana prescription card, and the dispensaries must follow several security procedures. A Curative official has said that the facade of the dispensary will blend in with the rest of the business district and that in other states his dispensaries have sparked a revitalization of the shopping area
