Lebanon Community Schools have a common mission: LCSC C.A.R.E.S. Cultivating And Reaching Every Student. This statement is not just a motto but it is evident in countless ways in our schools as our staff develops a safe and nurturing environment for meaningful 21st Century learning opportunities for all students. For example, our Developmental Pre-School Center provides opportunities for young learners to develop the foundations for future educational success by working with students and parents to create a strong foundation for learning. Another prime example of our vision coming to life is our College and Career Ready programs. From rigorous academic curricula to robust and relevant Career and Technical Education programming, our students are being afforded learning opportunities that transcend traditional programs. Not only are high school students engaged in learning the hard skills necessary for a variety of post-secondary careers, but we are also exploring the opportunities to embark on an elective curriculum that will allow students in middle school and high school to develop the soft skills required to be sought-after and valued as potential employees. We take P.R.I.D.E. in our schools, our students, and our educational programs.

Our commitment to our vision reaches much further than these few examples, and I challenge you to learn more by exploring our website or by contacting me via email or via phone at 765-482-0380.

At LCSC we try hard to make sure our schools remain a source of pride for our community. We value community support and input. Education is really a partnership involving community members, school personnel, and of course students and their families. I encourage you to become involved in our schools by volunteering in schools or at after school events, take time to attend student events, or share your success by becoming a mentor for our students. Lebanon Community Schools is your school system and I want to do everything within my power to make you feel welcome and engaged.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Taylor, Ed.D.

What's Happening at Harney!

There are many exciting things happening at Harney Elementary.

September 11th proved that there are main different ways to teach a lesson. Mrs. Boyett's kindergarten class took a walk to the Principal's office, where they could see the American flag flying at half-staff. Not only did they learn that the Principal's office was not a scary place, but they learned a very special lesson as well.

Who's in the House? The Watch Dogs are in the house and excited to be working with our students again this year. The kick off brought many new faces to the program. We are very excited to have the dads in the Harney House.

All Pro Dad's welcomed a familiar face to the Harney House to speak to our dads and students. Craig Terrill joined us for breakfast and a conversation about being unique.

Thank you to everyone for making these special events so wonderful!

Camp Tecumseh - 5th Grade

The 2nd annual trip to Camp Tecumseh by HBS 5th graders was a HUGE success. Everyone did a great job of participating in all events. Everyone came back to school tired but smiling. Incoming 5th graders can earn their camp fees by selling a certain percentage of the Spring PTO Flower fundraiser.

Students of the Month - August

These students were following the lifelines of:

  • Treating people right and
  • Doing the right thing all day, every day the month of August

Grandparents Day

Thank you Grandparents for visiting HBS on our first Grandparents Day. We had over 150 attend and it was great fun. Grandparents visited the classrooms before a presentation and crafts in the gym. We ended the day with refreshments for all that attended. Looking forward to next year!

Perry-Worth

Our 2nd annual Di$tance for Dollar$ Walk-a-thon was another huge success! We couldn't have done it without our volunteers and students! Thank you to all of our hard working walkers that raised money for our school with every lap they walked. Even Perry-Worth's school therapy dog Spartacus received a few pats on the head as students passed by him.

Honoring our Everyday Heroe

Grrrrrreat things are happening at LMS! Our students are more than a test score here. They are our future leaders, researchers, doctors, lawyers, educators, mechanics, developers, soldiers, police officers and so much more. This is the reason why LMS teaches beyond the textbook. On the evening prior to September 11, members of the LMS National Honor Society earned service points by putting hundreds of American flags along the side of the road leading up to the school as well as the front parking lot. This was in preparation of the annual LMS Heroes' Luncheon that has been hosted each year since the attacks on 9/11.

The Heroes' Luncheon serves multiple purposes. First, it opens our doors to those serving our community as civil service workers such as firemen, police officers, and paramedics. These are the men and women who willingly place their lives in harm's way in order to keep the community safe and provide us with care in the event of a crisis. These are our everyday heroes! They are treated to a delicious meal as our way of saying thank you; thanks for your service and our peace of mind. Second, it reminds our student body of the importance of respecting those who serve in these various roles in our community. During the luncheon, students are encouraged to mingle with our heroes and get to know our civil service workers on a more personal level. Third, it provides an opportunity for our students to give back to our community by hosting, serving, and providing a patriotic atmosphere within our school. This year's luncheon was enjoyed by more than 40 local heroes. Finally, it serves as a hands-on educational opportunity in both character education and history.

Every LMS student participated in classroom activities related to the events that forever changed our nation. The lessons served as an introduction to the history surrounding the World Trade Center, the 9/11 attacks and those responsible for them, as well as the rebuilding of the site and our nation's security. Students were involved in many discussions about the events and how it strengthened us as a nation. For some, the extensions to the learning were done as written reflections or responses to the historical videos presented; others discussed tolerance in the aftermath of uncertainty.

Regardless of the activity, one thing is certain, at LMS our students appreciate our everyday local heroes and will continue to honor them whenever possible.

  1. Naviance - our college and career search program has been re-introduced to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Registration codes have been sent to parents to login and see how their students are using the system. We are working to present the program to the Class of 2019 (freshman) and their parents by Fall Break.
  2. LHS Guidance Counselors have visited all of the senior English classes and are now meeting one on one with seniors to discuss their graduation requirements, post-secondary plans, and general senior year items. All seniors will have been met in person with their guidance counselor by the end of September.
  3. Lebanon High School is hosting its 3rd Annual College and Career Fair on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Lebanon High School in the Herman B Wells Community Rooms. Over 50 vendors have already committed to attending the event from two and four year colleges, apprenticeships, the military, and the workforce. This is a great event for students of all ages and their parents to attend to plan for a successful transition to life after high school.

AVID Classes Attend National College Fair

Members of the AVID 10, 11, and 12 classes traveled to the National College Fair at the Indianapolis Convention Center on Thursday, September 17. College representatives from over 200 colleges across the United States were available to speak to students. This annual field trip is an opportunity for AVID students to research and gather information on post-secondary institutions.

The Scoop on AVID's New Bigs and Littles Program

On Wednesday, August 26, 80 students from the AVID 7th -12th grade classes kicked off the school year with an Ice Cream Social in the LHS cafeteria. Students had the opportunity to get to know each other over cards, board games, friendly conversation, and, of course, ice cream sundaes.

AVID 9 student Austin Orr said, "The Minute to Win It game was a lot of fun. The best part was that we [as a member of the winning team] got a free Note Check!"

Kaylee Kirk, AVID 10 student, commented, "It was nice seeing the high school kids interact with the middle school kids."

This was the first of many events the LCSC AVID Team is planning for the 2015-16 school year.

AVID Students Tailgating

Approximately 70 AVID middle and high school students enjoyed Tailgating before the North Montgomery football game on Friday, September 11. The threat of rain moved some of our activities in the Auxiliary Gym at the high school, but students were able to play several games of corn hole and ladders and we were able to grill out in the parking lot without getting wet. Inside the gym we had quite the group of girls making posters at the Poster Making Station and a pitch in of salads, chips, and delicious desserts were enjoyed along with the hot dogs and hamburgers.

Thank you to Mr. Dave Ferrell for being our Grill Master and Mr. Phil Levine and the Athletic Department for providing AVID students with free tickets to the football game.
