Reflections on the Past, the Present, and the Future
Greetings!
It's always amazing to me how quickly the future can become the past. Many times in our reflections of years gone by, we become a bit melancholy as to how the years have flown. We find ourselves asking, "Where did the time go?"
When that feeling of accelerated time applies to your children it can bring about lots of emotions. As you think back through the years and remember the ups and downs, I truly believe there is a very positive reason to celebrate knowing that in the blink of an eye each of your precious little ones has grown into a source of pride and admiration. Life's most precious possessions, your children, have benefited from the love, care, and concern of many influential individuals. Family, friends, mentors, and teachers all have contributed to the development of these very special young adults.
I can imagine on that first day of kindergarten in August of 2001, those parents who were sending their children off for the first day of school were barely even thinking about the future, much less their plans for Friday, May 31st, 2013 at 7:00 PM. While they were tearfully watching their little ones head off to the classroom, I would guess they were not envisioning their little kindergarteners as the high school seniors who will be walking across the stage to receive their Lebanon High School diplomas. Thirteen years, 2,340 school days, 16,380 classroom hours, 52 report cards, over 100 different teachers and coaches, 8 science fairs, 1 World's Fair, hundreds of miles driven back and forth to school for all of the activities such as club meetings, musical performances, athletic practices and competitions, and the first middle school dance to the last Senior Prom were all experienced by students and parents alike. "Where did the time go?"
The years, the days, and the hours your children have experienced in school hopefully have contributed to developing those wide-eyed kindergarteners into focused young adults who each possess a solid foundational underpinning of knowledge, strong moral character, and an unwavering sense of self-confidence that have become their personal formula for success. I don't believe I will ever cease being amazed at the transformation that takes place in those 13 years. The physical, emotional, and intellectual growth that occurs over that span of time is nothing short of a miracle. Having the privilege of playing a role in your children's lives during their time at Lebanon Community Schools is such a valued honor and awesome responsibility. I can assure you our teachers and administrators cherish the opportunities to make a difference for students as important as your children. Thank you for allowing us to be such a special part of their lives. Thank you, too, for being such a valued partner in supporting our work as we prepare your sons and daughters for their new adventures.
Congratulations to our Kindergarten Class of 2013. We are excited about our time together in the coming years. Congratulations to our Senior Class of 2013 and to their families on a job well done. Just a word of advice to the parents of all of those students in between - Don't blink because you may see the future quickly become the past. Enjoy and treasure each moment and experience.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
With best wishes,
Dr. Robert L. Taylor

LHS Earns Jostens National Yearbook Design Recognition:
2012 LHS Cedars Yearbook pages featured in 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book
Lebanon High School's yearbook, Cedars, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 11 celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage. Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, storytelling copy and action-packed photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.
The Cedars page was created by Mattie Lindner under the direction of Carol Kazmierczak, yearbook adviser.
"It's one of our goals every year that our yearbooks staff great work will be recognized as a top tier yearbook in the county and now it's happened", said Kazmierczak. "It really says something about your school and your staff to be given an honor like this".
Lebanon High School and the Cedars yearbook was one of only 425 yearbooks selected from approximately 3,000. The 2013 panel of judges comprised of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers selected the best examples of yearbook spreads and covers to make up the 352-page 2013 Look Book.
"Yearbooks are unique, limited edition books created by students to capture the stories and events for all of the school's students and Jostens is proud to celebrate the yearbook tradition and the 425 yearbooks selected for the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, said John Dalke, editor. "Today's yearbooks are very sophisticated in terms of visual presentation and the relevant and inclusive content that is featured."
Kazmierczak and her yearbook staff have received a copy of Jostens 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book and plaque from Jostens to recognize their outstanding achievement.
"Our yearbook and newspaper are amazing and are being highly scored by Columbia University in their annual evaluation of high school publication programs", says Lebanon Principal, Kevin O'Rourke. "Recognition such as this compliments the strong academic gains we've made in conjunction with our ongoing commitment to technology integration.
