Buhari Begins Restructuring of NNPC with Creation of 4 New Directorates and GED Appointments
Barely 24 hours after announcing the appointment of Ibe Kachiwku as the new Grup Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), news has reached NOGintelligence that the restructuring of the organisation national oil corporation has begun. First, the 8 Group Executive Directors were sacked. This follows on from the dissolution of the NNPC board 2 weeks ago. Now, immediately after the appointment of the new GMD, 4 new Group Executive Directors (GEDs) have been appointed. It was not imediately clear whether the President intends to appoint additional GEDs to head the remaining Directorates or whether he intends to do away with the rest. The indications are that he has done away with the other Directorates in a bid to create a leaner organisation and move away from the bureaucracy of a multiplicity of Directorates.
The new GEDs who have been promoted from within are former Group General Managers Bankole Komolafe (Commercial and Investment), Isiaka AbdulRazak (Finance), Denis Nnamdi (Exploration and Production), Dr. M.K Baru (Refining and Engineering).
The previous Directorates were Exploration & Production, Refineries & Petrochemical, Engineering and Technical, Gas & Power, Commerce & Investment, Corporate Services, Finance & Accounts and Business Development. The last set of GEDs were appointed by the Jonathan administration only in March last year. This latest raft of appointments demonstrates the President's determination to crack on with the reforms needed to turn NNPC around and institute transparency and accountability in its operations.
