This Has Been a Busy Month!

Every May our firm is involved with two very important industry events.  We enjoyed seeing many of you this month at one of them:

On May 8-10, 2013,  we co-sponsored the 33rd Annual SCAHRM Educational Conference in Rancho Mirage, California.

On May 15-17, 2013, we participated in the "Buy a Banner, Support a Charity" program at the 20th Annual West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Seminar in Anaheim, California.  We selected the Wounded Warrior Project.
New California Case on Damages

On April 30, 2013, the California Court of Appeal issued its opinion in Corenbaum v. Lampkin, 2013 WL 1801996 (Cal.App. 2013).  This is an important case on damages in personal injury lawsuits, and it  answers questions posed by Howell v. Hamilton Meats & Provisions, Inc., 52 Cal.4th 541 (2011). The Corenbaum Court held that evidence of billed, but unpaid, medical expenses cannot be used to show future economic damages or pain-and-suffering.  Nor may experts rely on such unpaid bills when opining on the value of future medical services.

This Month's Articles

The law is not absolute; there are limitations on how claims are litigated in California.  This month's articles discuss some of these limitations.

Construction:  California courts outsource different case management responsibilities for construction defect cases depending on where the case is venued.  Click here to read more.

General Liability: Not every defamation claim is a winner, especially if the content was communicated via the Internet.  Click here to read more.

Healthcare: Claimant attorneys are limited in the scope of discovery which they may conduct against healthcare professionals.  Click here to read more.
Caselaw Highlights
