Superintendent's Message
This holiday season, our students and staff have demonstrated a remarkable spirit of service. They've served meals, donated toys, performed for senior citizens and given their time to numerous charitable causes and organizations. Below are examples to celebrate:

Sumner High School students held its 11th annual Community Dinner at which over 250 staff and students came together to serve a free holiday meal to over 750 people in our area. Over 400 children took a picture with Santa and picked out a new toy. Hundreds of children participated in arts and crafts and adults were able to enjoy a variety of entertainment.

Bonney Lake High School staff and students partnered with the City of Bonney Lake and collected enough non-perishable food items to fill an entire city dump truck! Food collected was then delivered to the local senior center and food bank.

As the Superintendent of Sumner School District, I am humbled by the wonderful humanitarian and charitable efforts that are on display throughout our district. We are a large organization that can have a deep, powerful, and positive impression on our community when we empower our students and staff to better our neighborhoods through spreading kindness and caring.

The strength of a community is seen through its commitment for caring. The warmth of people who give their time to others is the best example of the holiday spirit.

As we reflect on the closing year and plan for the future, I am thankful for many things in our district, but most importantly, I am thankful for what we accomplish together.

Have a wonderful holiday season!
Bond Gets Endorsement by the City of Bonney Lake
On Wednesday, December 8, 2015, the Bonney Lake City Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of the Sumner School District Capital Projects Bond. The comprehensive $145.6 million school bond would fund critical capital facility needs identified by a Facility Planning Committee and unanimously approved by the School Board on November 18, 2015.

The upcoming February 9th Capital Projects Bond would build, expand, and improve school facilities throughout the Bonney Lake and Sumner region. The bond measure would build a new elementary school in the southeast region of the district, build an Early Learning Center in the Sumner Valley, rebuild Emerald Hills Elementary, expand and modernize Sumner High School, expand and enhance Bonney Lake High School with a Performing Arts Center, expand Mountain View Middle School, improve middle school athletic fields, and provide improvements to student safety and security.

Information about the bond measure is available on the Sumner School District Website. The District anticipates a tax rate increase (over the existing rate) of approximately $0.45 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $90.00 per year (or $7.50 per month) for a home valued at $200,000. With this tax rate increase, the total bond tax rate will be approximately $2.41 through 2028, and then decreases to $0.94 for the life of the bonds.

If passed, this bond will increase instructional space, accommodate full day kindergarten, provide classrooms to lower elementary class sizes, expand curriculum offerings, enhance student safety and security, and improve quality of student life.
