#GivingTuesday
is coming!
December 2, 2014

On this national day of giving, we encourage you to support Raising A Reader.

Best of all, thanks to a matching grant from the Despeaux Good Works Fund of the East Bay Community Foundation, each gift is matched 100%.  Your donation will now bring twice the love, laughter, and learning to the families who need it most.

Every donation will support our red bag rotation program, ensuring that 15,000 children and families will share precious moments of book-sharing throughout the coming year.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

November 2014
'Tis the season for giving thanks!  ...And you're at the top of our list.

Without supporters like you, we wouldn't have experienced the tremendous growth and amazing successes we've enjoyed so far this year.  We've helped with a successful new texting study, we've made new friends, and honored our community's dedicated educators.  We can't wait to see what the coming year will bring!

For more information on our growth, ambitions, and plans for 2015, please see this letter from Executive Director, Molly Wertz!

Happy Reading!

What's New at Raising A Reader

NYTBeyond the Bay: Parent Texting Study Mentioned in the New York Times

In partnership with Stanford University, Raising A Reader designed and piloted a texting protocol to determine if weekly texts can make a difference in how, and how often, families engage in literacy developing behaviors. The good news: it worked!

EducatorsRAR Honors Educators in San Francisco & Oakland
Educators are at the heart of Raising A Reader's work.  Without dedicated educators committed to ensuring that our red bags are sent home with students each week, our work would not be possible.  Our educators work hard every day, and we want to honor their continued commitment to enriching the lives of children day in and day out with an evening of fun, networking, professional development, and special awards.

Share the gift of Reading!

We were so excited to host children's author Mac Barnett and illustrator Christian Robinson at our annual holiday celebration.  Now, the wonderful team at Books Inc. has agreed to donate 6% of their sales from Mac Barnett and Christian Robinson titles to RAR for the next two weeks! This means if you purchase any of these stellar books on or before November 28th, you will also be putting books in the hands of children across the Bay Area. You can have the books shipped to you or arrange for pickup in-store.

Browse Mac Barnett's titles here, or click here for a full list of Christian Robinson's books.

What We're Reading

One mom's quest to create a perfect day, inspired by her son's favorite book about adventures in New York's Central Park, left us speechless.  See what mother, son, and father did on their special day together.  How would you bring your child's favorite book to life?

When children experiment, build (and destroy), craft, and tinker - they are learning! Click this link to discover a book filled with great projects ideas for little scientists, artists, and architects.
