2015 Excellence in Teaching Awards

Annual Economics and Financial Literacy Conference

Nearly 150 attendees participated in the 9th Annual Get Your Students Pumped Up on Personal Finance and Economics! conference, held in conjunction with the
5th Annual Wisconsin Summit on Financial Literacy.  EconomicsWisconsin, in partnership with our Lakeland College Center for Economic Education, presented this program on October 16th at Lambeau Field.  Participants attended sessions including, Understanding and Establishing Credit and FICO Scores?, The Cost of Cheap Oil, A Conversation on International Economics, Math & Economics: Real World Applications, and High Impact Personal Finance Lessons, among others.  


Comments from participating teachers included:

  • Very informative. My high school students are always asking, "Who decides the price of gas?"
  • Provided/demonstrated solid content and teaching nuances to help motivate students.
  • Great - useful resources, realistic, will refer back to this often.


Following lunch, the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Economics and Financial Literacy Teaching Awards were presented by Ken Petter, Tim O'Driscoll, and Scott Niederjohn.

  • Second Place - Gwen Skoyen / Osseo-Fairchild High School
  • Third Place - Brent Mansky / Westosha Central High School.
This awards program, sponsored by Robert W. Baird & Co., honors the outstanding performance of teachers who have created unique and innovative economic and financial literacy education lessons, units, or projects.The teachers received substantial cash awards and engraved crystal apples.
