Upcoming Green Team Roundtable in Omaha, November 14th

Annual Sustainability Reporting is the topic of the November 14th Green Team Roundtable at ConAgra Foods in Omaha. Marcella Thompson, Director Sustainability, Environmental, Health and Safety, will discuss her process for gathering data and compiling an annual report for the Global Reporting Initiative. Registration is required by Friday, November 9th at www.wastecapne.org/greenteams/. Cost is $10 or $8 for WasteCap Nebraska and Green Omaha Council members.

WasteCap Keeps Mercury Out of Our Environment

Since 2005, WasteCap Nebraska has received funding from the Nebraska Environmental Trust to provide education and market development activities for Universal Wastes. With this funding, WasteCap developed workshops for businesses on the proper disposal of fluorescent lamps and electronics, hosted electronics collection events, developed a small grant program for communities to host electronics recycling events and developed the Another Bright Idea campaign to provide recycling outlets for fluorescent lamps.

A Phased Approach to Sustainability and Certification

WasteCap Nebraska is launching a new initiative to provide educational assistance, recognize achievements and create a vibrant network of businesses in Nebraska that are on a sustainable path. We are seeking businesses that wish to accelerate their education about sustainable business practices to participate in a half-day "Strive Towards Sustainability" workshop and/or to take part in an in-depth pilot program with the goal of creating a sustainability plan and corporate infrastructure that is capable of attaining a "Nebraska Green Business Certification".

LES Funds Still Available for Energy-Efficiency Projects | |
If you are planning any projects that could increase your organization's energy efficiency, you may be interested in knowing that Lincoln Electric System's Sustainable Energy Program still has incentive funds available.
LES has provided more than $2 million to fund energy efficiency initiatives through the SEP this year. As of Oct. 5, 2012, approximately $850,000 of this allocation was still available. To read the full article, click here.

Public Invited to Open House and Online Town Hall on Solid Waste Management Plan
| | The public is invited to an open house Tuesday, November 13th on the Solid Waste Management Plan for Lincoln and Lancaster County - Solid Waste Plan 2040. The open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on the lower level of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, 3140 "N" Street. The open house will focus on the Needs Assessment, which summarizes the current solid waste management systems, facilities and programs and identifies future solid waste management needs. Informative posters will be displayed and City staff will be available to answer questions. No formal presentation is planned.

Scrap Metal Recycling Drive to Raise Money for Lincoln Public Schools Program

Lincoln and Lancaster County residents are encouraged to recycle their scrap metal during the month of November to benefit the Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) recycling program. The recycling drive is being conducted as part of Lincoln Recycles Day (LRD) Saturday, November 17.
