Marketing Tip from Heather Hammack
Get Connected to the IRS with Social Media
Were you uninformed this year? Did you scramble to try and find information regarding the IRS and tax deadlines? Are you saying, "I won't make that mistake again next year?" Well, now you can make sure you stay connected to the tax information you need!
Having a CPA is one of the wisest investments you can make because he or she is thorough. They will become your trusted advisor and help you look for tax saving opportunities that can help you plan for your future. A CPA understands and keeps up with tax law, but if you prefer a do-it-yourself approach, here are some ways to connect with the IRS:
- IRS2Go. IRS's free mobile app gives you your refund status, tax news updates, IRS You Tube videos and also lets you request your tax records. IRS2Go is available for the iPhone, iTouch or Android mobile devices.
- YouTube. IRS offers video tax tips on a variety of topics in English, Spanish and American Sign Language.
- Twitter. Tweets from @IRSnews provide tax-related announcements and daily tax tips. Tweets from @IRStaxpros offer news and guidance for tax professionals. Tweets from @IRSenEspanol have news and information in Spanish, and @RecruitmentIRS provides updates for job seekers.
- Podcasts. IRS has short audio recordings that offer one tax-related topic per podcast. They are available on iTunes or through the Multimedia Center. Transcripts of the Podcasts are also available.
- Tumblr. IRS Tumblr is a microblogging platform where users can access IRS tax tips, videos, and podcasts. The IRS uses Tumblr to share information about important programs. Tumblr can be accessed from your browser, smartphone, tablet or desktop.
Protecting your privacy is a top priority at the IRS. The IRS uses social media tools to share public information, not to answer personal tax or account questions. You should never post your Social Security number or any other confidential information on social media sites.
Get connected to the IRS with social media. If you have questions regarding your specific situation make sure to reach out to your certified public accountant.

Technology Tip from Heather Hammack
Intuit Aims to be the Facebook of Small Business
Accounting software company, Intuit, has released its latest new service, Intuit Anywhere. This service allows developers to connect their apps to Intuit's Partner Platform, giving them the ability to integrate with QuickBooks data and let customers sign on using their Intuit ID. This is similar to Facebook in the respect that you can sign onto websites using Facebook to connect. In this case you will be using an Intuit login, giving the web apps access to your QuickBooks data on Intuit's servers.
Intuit Anywhere is aimed at helping turn QuickBooks into a platform and an app store. Intuit also states that it will make certified apps available on its Intuit App Center, which will be a collection of web apps that work with QuickBooks.
Intuit states that 1 million users have already registered for their App Center. With just 4 million customers, QuickBooks does not have anything like the gravitational pull of Facebook, but small businesses that use QuickBooks to run their core operations are a prime target for developers.
Paul Jackson, president and founder of MethodCRM.com states, "The ease of building and marketing apps using Intuit Anywhere means we're going to see more developers integrating with QuickBooks."
Intuit Anywhere is in beta now and will be released in the fall.
