Dear ,

I love the fall.  Crisp, cool air takes the place of the hot, humid summer.  Family and friends gather together to cheer on their favorite football team.  Life transitions back into a routine.  The routine at SME CPAs changes too.  Our team gets geared to meet with clients about their year-end planning.

Year-end planning is so important to reaching your financial goals - both personally and in business.  Being prepared is an essential part of being successful.  SME CPAs ensures we have done everything we possibly can to provide a positive outcome for our clients.  By reviewing accounting data and generating projections for year-end we are able to assess if there are additional deductions that can be taken, evaluate tax credits that may be available and make decisions about purchasing equipment.  Planning minimizes the overall tax burden for our clients, which makes a happy year end!

Social Media Hiring

Social media is time consuming. Are you thinking of hiring a company or an internal employee to manage it for you? Here are attributes a social media manager should emulate:

The person should be naturally curious about what is going on in your company and how that affects customers. They should check in with departments and uncover new information in order to craft the best message. In regard to information gathering, the right person knows what to share and what not to share. They respect the company's guidelines and are still able to respond with a sense of urgency to questions and comments. Lastly, a social media manager should be able to write in a conversational voice and manage that voice using an editorial calendar.

Technology Tip from Debbie Banks

Can Quickbooks products improve your Retail Operations?

As retail business owners will certainly agree, a reliable point of sale system is essential for success. The days of the old-fashioned cash register are long gone, and the systems that have replaced them have adapted to technological advances, as well as to retailer's needs. Computer touch screens and bar code scanners now occupy sales counters in operations ranging from mom-and-pop stores to large department store and grocery chains.

You may be surprised to learn that there are dependable systems available that are simple enough to install and use almost immediately, and Intuit's Point of Sale product line falls into this class. Although it is not recommended for restaurants, car lots, manufacturers, and a few others, it is adaptable to most retail situations. Businesses involved in the sale of apparel, footwear, gifts, games and electronics, appliances, books, sporting goods, hardware, furniture, and luggage, among others, are well suited for Intuit's product and could easily be managed with Point of Sale.

The impact that Point of Sale can have on your operations is far reaching, as it is much more than a simple sales register. Sales, including credit card and gift card sales, are rung up in seconds, using bar code and touch screen technology, and inventory is updated with every sale. Layaways, customer orders and returns are also captured in inventory. Customer information is collected and tracked, allowing the retailer to target specific clusters of customers for sale announcements or coupon distribution, based on their spending patterns. Important customers and your business can benefit from a Rewards Program designed and maintained in Point of Sale.

Instant reports are just a click away with Intuit's Point of Sale. You will be apprised of essential up-to-date sales data, top selling products, customer stats, etc. You will have a deeper understanding of the workings of your business and will have the ability to do more with that knowledge to cultivate and expand your customer base and boost sales.

Another valuable feature of Point of Sale is its seamless integration with Quickbooks Financial software. End-of-Day procedures are automatically initiated after closing, and the data for that day is transferred over to your Quickbooks software. This eliminates double data entry, saving time and helping to ensure the accuracy of your financial reports.

If you would like to learn more about Point of Sale and how it works for a single store or multi-store environment, please contact us at Serotta Maddocks Evans CPAs. Our team of ProAdvisors has the experience and knowledge to help you decide if this product is a good fit for your business, as well as to assist with installation and training.

Sincerely,
