I REMEMBER WHEN by Frankie Monaldi, Sr.

"I remember growing up in Little Italy in the early 1960's with my brothers, Pete and Joe Monaldi. We would have a gig in Pasadena Maryland at the Lake Shore Democratic Club. Parties back then were from 9 pm to 1 am and they would ask my dad, '"Can the boys play an extra hour?" We would, and by the time we packed up the instruments and headed for home, the restaurants would still be open. We would go into DeNittis and order from Mr. Blase an extra-large pizza with extra cheese. Then we would walk across the street to our house, unload the station wagon, and just enjoy that pie. Mom would wake up, come downstairs, and ask, "How was the dance?" We would talk and eat pizza until 4 in the morning. Parking in the neighborhood was no problem when you got home that late."

book "BALTIMORE'S LITTLE ITALY: History and Heritage of The Neighborhood" RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 23

Before outdoor films, mouth watering cuisine and the spectacle of bocce brought  thousands of visitors to its streets, Baltimore's Little Italy was a haven for generations of immigrants. With Saint Leo's Church at its heart, The Neighborhood is a place where lifelong friendships are forged and nicknames are serious business. The community still celebrates the Feast of Saint Anthony Italian Festival in tribute to the saint who was credited with saving the neighborhood from the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. As sons went to the front during both world wars, families pulled together during the hard times. With memories of beloved local figures like Marion "Mugs" Mugavero and artist Tony DeSales, interviews with lifelong locals and a few classic recipes, author Suzanna Rosa Molino creates a spirited history of this enduring Italian community.

Written by Suzanna Molino, director of Promotion Center for Little Italy, this title is a new release by The History Press, S.C. and available to order through History Press website and where most books are sold. ($19.99; 160 pages)

"I just wanted to say how beautiful and positive your organization has been to the great Italian American community. Your advertising techniques have been spot on. Insinuating the positives of our culture and never promoting negative stereotypes.
Over a year ago I sent a message because 'once' to my distaste you promoted a movie night which included The Godfather; I had included other options that would be positive in our effort to rid our children from these old, tired and hurtful stereotypes. Since then I have watched and wondered - not only have your promotions been stereotype-free but even more creatively positive.
God bless you and thank you for keeping our 'real' beautiful heritage and culture alive and vibrant for our youth."
~ Anthony Salvatore

"Congrats for the Promotion Center's 5-year anniversary. You've done an amazing job promoting a neighborhood that has so much history."
