Upcoming 2016 Workshops
As 2014 draws to a close, we are excited about the workshops that will be available in 2016. DMAQG will host an assortment of teachers. We're confident the scheduled varied and offer something to match everyone's interests. Registration for 2016 workshops will begin at our December Tea and Annual Meeting on December 12.

This is a wool applique class. You will create a wall hanging appliqueing wool onto a cotton background using hand stitching and creative use of embellishments.

This needle turn applique class uses your own stash of varied fabrics (silk, velvet, deco, wool, lame, batiks, etc.) and trims to create an Exotic Bird. Instruction will include how to use different stitches, tools and threads with the different fabrics.

What looks like 8-pointed stars floating in a black background are actually Hunter's Star blocks made using the Rapid Fire Hunter's Star - Petite Star tool. Each of the three projects use the same pieces, but their different arrangements give them distinct personalities

This difficult looking pattern is a cinch using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool and construction process. The units are strip pieced and assembled with no "Y" seams. Pieced units are trimmed for high precision so matching. seams and keeping points becomes a snap!

Due to a high interest in her Millefiori quilt featured in McCalls Quilting, Toby designed a class on how to create this unique New York Beauty quilt. It is an extension of her Unfoundation piecing 101 class, which includes curved piecing, foundation piecing with freezer paper, and adds how to find designs with mirrors, fussy-cutting with templates, using stripes in your block, and construction of the block. Intermediate to Advanced.

Based on Angela;s newest book, this class shows how you can break most quilt blocks into smaller, basic shapes. Learn designs that work in all differently shaped blocks as well as other areas of a quilt, including borders and negative space.

Create a colorful woven basket quilt full of joyful flowers and leaves. Learn fusing techniques like pattern transfer, bias weaving, and bias braiding for the basket handle. Pattern templates are provided, but you will also learn fusing tips and how to add hand embroidery to your small art quilt. Bring summer into your home and make a basket full of flowers from a kit of beautifully hand-dyed fabrics and threads. (No sewing machine is needed.)

Create a little house quilt and receive a degree in Architecture from the Chicago School of Fusing at the same time! In this workshop we explore the many techniques of fusing: free cutting, layering, collage building, improvisational design, and more. The result is a whimsical neighborhood placed in a colorful landscape setting and made from beautifully hand-dyed fabrics. (No sewing machine is needed)

In this 1-day workshop, you will be combining couching, hand embroidery and decorative machine stitching to help you create fabulous textures and colors on batik cotton fabric. This is the class you need to explore and use all those hundreds of "decorative stitches" included in your sewing machine. You will also learn a new way to finish the edges of your piece with rattail cord and learn the secrets of mounting your art so it will hang on your wall beautifully. You will leave this class with a finished masterpiece!

This 1-day workshop will teach you the unlimited design possibilities of raw edge cut work. Starting with simple machine stitching (either free motion or regular stitching) you will stitch a design on the back of your layered fabrics. Then, it's ripping and tearing (the most fun part!) to uncover a geometric pattern on the top. The final steps will be to hand stitch and machine couch to create your textured fabric art. This is another fun class where every design decision you make is based on the decision you made before.
