I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. I want to thank the Guild Board for all their hard work this year in continuing to meet the goals and challenges of their respective positions.

I also want to thank everyone who volunteered for anything - providing treats, educating children, charity auction, quilt show, moving books, taking on Board positions, etc.  It would not get done without volunteers.

This year has brought change to the Guild. The Board voted to change our meeting place.  This change is effective with our meetings on January 27. The Board also voted  to combine the Newsletter Editor and Website Coordinator into one position called the Social Media Manager.  This position will be the Guild's first contract position.

It has been a privilege for me to be a part of all of this. The Guild is made up of a wonderful group of people who give so much to the Guild and to our community.

I hope you will have your President's Challenge completed on December 6 as we finish the year with our annual tea and election of new officers.

2014 Quilt Show Wrap-up

Many thanks to everyone who helped in some way to make the 2014 Quilt Show a success.  The show committee always gets it done!!  You are a creative, hard-working, dedicated group that meets the challenge of planning our show each year.

Special thanks go to our AQS liaisons, Mary Shotwell and Jill Reber. AQS reported attendance was up this year!  Thanks to our members and your spouses (who helped with set up and take down), for volunteering to fill the many volunteer slots needed to make our show a success.  Thanks also if you served on a committee, showed your quilts and treasured quilts, made or bid on a Little Quilt, or loaned props for the special exhibits.

A very special thank you to Martha Henrichs for designing this year's raffle quilt, and to all who helped make it including the ladies at Sacred Heart Church who hand-quilted it.  It was very exciting to draw the winning ticket and find that it was won by Marilyn Dillivan, one of our members!!
Thanks to the Quilt Block and Creekside Quilting for allowing us to use their shops for drop-off sites prior to the show.

Financials will be reported at the annual meeting of the Guild on December 6.

The Des Moines Area Quilters Guild is a very talented and sharing group and we look forward to the 2015 show.  Diane Crawford and Cindy Ohmart are the show co-chairs and we look forward to hearing all they have planned for the 2015 show.

2014 Workshop Wrap-up

We're shocked at how fast this year has gone, and how much we've learned!  When choosing teachers for 2014, our goal was to find teachers that would appeal to as many members as possible, and therefore fill classes. Imagine our delight when several classes filled on the day of the December Tea!  Thank you all so much.

We had many members who took classes from four and five teachers, some even seven!  While the majority of members signed up during the tea, you continued to support the Guild by signing up throughout the year.  We even had brave souls that were willing to try our mini-class experiment during the month of February, and we think they all felt they got their money's worth.

A total of 325 class slots were filled by members, and 6 slots were filled by non-members.

Thank you so much for supporting our Guild and making our position so rewarding.
